Tiger keeps freezing on install

G5 iMac.

My 10.3.9 kept freezing and it would take 10 or so boot ups to actually get it started, so I got Tiger, went to install it. Did an erase and install for Tiger and it got up to like 7% done and froze on me. so i had to force the computer off and try it again...again it got up to like 20% froze, tried again...50% froze.

Any suggestions? Before installing I repaired my permissions, disk was verified (ok), ran fsck.....

I also have Tiger 911, but without it installing it's not much use.

Thanks.

How long did you stay at 50% before knowing that it froze on you? Also, are you doing the archive and install method? If so, you could be running out of space. Or it just could be the DVD drive itself.

It sat at 50% for over an hour not moving.

I was doing the Erase and Install (Clean install).

The DVD drive has never had problems and I used the Tiger disk on another computer and it worked...

Thanks for the suggestions anyone else have any ideas?

Never had that happen to my iBook or PowerMac. I've never owned a iMac G5, but do you know if it has any fans or any openings? Maybe it's dusty inside and there is alot of heat not being dissipated.

Give Apple Support a call and see what they tell you. you can even try the Apple discussion forums.
