Few Questions About Objectdock

Right now I am in two minds as to whether I should use YzDock, or ObjectDock. I have been playing around with the latest beta, and I have a few questions:

Does OD support .png images for the dock items? I have a .png for everything for everything in YzDock, and would like to know whether they would work in OD
I have heard talk of OD Docklets. What's going on with these? Will they be in the next OD release?
Is there a way to turn off the bouncing icon effect when I start an app. It may be very OSXish, but I just plain don't like it
Is there a way to make the dock appear when I move my mouse to the bottom of the screen. This is only a small thing, but it's something I found useful in YzDock
I've heard one or two people mention that, as OD is still beta, it will stop working after a set time. Sort of like a 30-day trial. Is this true?

I don't like ObjectDock... has anyone notice that the height of the background is really bad done? (I'm not talking about magnification).

The distance between the top of the icon and the top of the background is really small compared to the OS X dock and the other two docks (yz and moby), it happens the same between the bottom of the icon and the bottom of the background. Go and see it yourself

that's why I don't like OD.

about your questions:

- It supports pngs

- you can disable the bouncing effect

- you can get it hidden

Yes they would.

You cannot get anywhere near as many docklets for OD as for Y.

No you cannot.

No it will not. The only thing it will do is autohide. In Y's the dock can be set to be active but not always on top, so when you maximise a window it dissappears, yet when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen, it reappears and STAYS (not autohide) making the window behind it inactive...until you click (or simply move mouse to[option])the inactive window again to make it active, when it dissapears

No it is not.

I recently switched from 8 months of OD usage to y's dock, The latest build 0.83 is (literally) three times as fast fps wise as previous ones.

What swayed me was the docklets (the weather and power ones rock), the mag effect (I have a slow pc, OD would only do either a pixellated mag (custom) and a sharp one (GDI+ engine), Y's has an option of something inbetween too, where it's pixellated when you move but sharp when you stop.

I would only reccomend OD to someone with a CPU of under a p2 350. (I run only a 500)

Oh and OD gets slower the more icons are added to it, Y's does not.

I've just switched from being a hardcore Yz Dock user to an Object Dock user, heres why:

Taskdock. This is insanely useful and truer to the OSX dock.

Icon support. Yz Dock supports ico, but Object Dock seems to respond faster.

Stability. OD plays nicer with multimedia apps.

Speed. Latest version of OD is fast. Thank God, its about time.

Animation. Much more realistic mouseover effects and bounce.

Things I miss:

Docklets. Need I say more?

Docklets. Just couldn't help but to list them again - too cool.

Brandname. I like Yz, and want to support him in every way...if an app has his name on it I know its radically cool.

my only silly quirk with object dock is that the icons seems to be smushed towards the edge/bottom of the screen.. and the indicators overlap.. senseless maybe, but that and the rampant photshop bug (with most aqua-captioned msstyles except milk redux) drive me nuts! :blink:

I am also in limbo between ObjectDock and Yz's, both have some great features. Here's what I like about ObjectDock:

-Taskbar feature, works like OS X and allows you to use an objectbar more easily since you don't need the running tasks funtion of the normal XP taskbar. I only wish icons/snapshots of running apps would disappear from the dock when they are restored and reappear on the dock only when minimized, just like OS X

-Speed, this might just be for me, but objectdock runs much faster than Y'z even with alot of icons on it. And I have and 800mhz PIII with 756mb ram.

-Continued Development, since dev of Y'z doc has been stopped it can't get any better but objectdock has a lot of promise. Developers are even going implement a new plugin feature to rival that of Y'z docklets (which to many, is the main reason for choosing Y'z dock).

yes! i dont like that as well!.. i really like object dock but it makes the dock look bad... the background spacing from the top and sides is kidna wrong makes it looks sorta bad... its great, VERY responsive great features.. its just the background that keeps me away from it (and the indicators overlap the icons)

Thanks. I've decided to stick with ObjectDock. I'm now using it mainly because it's faster. Yz was sometimes really slow for me. Now I'm just looking forward to the docklets :woot:
