Rumshot 0.8.1 Beta

I present to you RumShot 0.8.1.

PLEASE review the Rumshot Guide if you are new to the application or it's themes. (TheCerealMouse, if you read this, please get ahold of me on MSN)

A few things to note...

  • This build includes the latest Rumshot Guide as a standalone html file.
  • This build fixes the issue with the preview slice not changing after using the popout window feature.
  • RumShot themes are just zip files - to see how to make your own, change the extension on the theme files to .zip, extract and have fun. The xml is really very straight forward.
  • Alpha/White masking has been worked on and hopefully will work for everyone. I've only tested on my work and home machines but it's much quicker now. - take a look at Ozzpot's Panorama theme for an example.
  • To report bugs please copy the exception text or error message (if any) and paste it using http://rafb.net/paste !!
  • Feel free to throw out a bunch of suggestions, but please keep in mind that the interface isn't likely to change much, if at all.

Rumshot REQUIRES the .NET 2.0 Framework. Go here if you dont have it already. No, you can not use a beta version of 2.0 with this.

PLEASE DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT RESOURCE USAGE. I'LL JUST END UP IGNORING YOUR POST

This beta expires on September 1st, 2006.

And as always...

READ THE README OR LOSE ALL OF YOUR HAIR.

Preview of the app (cause someone asked for one)

Lastly - If you have a theme/border that you created (or permission to port someone else's - you need proof, btw) for another app and would like me to port it for you, please private message me and I will be happy to help.

No sooner than I installed than another beta comes out....fast work!

#408314

Yeah the bug was pretty simple to solve.

#408319

You sir are FAST!

I modded a theme that was horizontal to be vertical, and THIS happend. I personally put all the blame on long nights of partying by the developer >:L

(thank you)

Steps:

1. Have a vertical theme

2. Select vertical theme or just look at it in the theme select menu

The buttons moving over the menu happens with "short" themes as well

#408394

you sir are a hard guy to please :P

actually, I think you deserve the forum's best beta-tester award.

Edit: enjoilax is correct. Same Problem here.

#408396

How use the other theme?

#408414

Mac_Win. I think you're up losing all your hair.

#408503

Yeah, seriously. How many places do I have to say 'read the guide' or 'read the readme'.

Anyhow, glad this build doesnt have any functionality errors.

Ok, fixed the layout issues. Never did anticipate vertical previews. I'm going to hold off on posting this for a bit to let this last one marinate on people's desktops. We'll see if any bugs pop up and if not, release the next as 1.0 stable.

big bug

guess what andrew, my bug is still in effect.

the preview slice now updates for the correct theme, which it didnt used to. but now it uses the original slice, instead of the new positioned slice.

ie: once i have taken a screenshot, moved it around with pop-out preview, changing themes will update but it will use the original preview slice, not the new one i just picked with pop out window.

hope you understand :)

small bug

this is a very small "bug" if you can even call it that. but when i launch rumshot, the right side theme list is bigger than the form until i select a theme

rumshotve4.jpg

left=just opened, right=selected a theme

you can tell by the scrollbar.

#408593

i need some help

http://img403.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hmmmmma5.jpg

is that correct or should each theme have its own folder ... becuase i tried that too and restarted and it still didnt show all the themes

#409042

don't extract the themes. leave them in the folder with the rstheme extension.

basically it's a zip file with the extension themes.

PS. What Visual style are you using? Looks nice.

#409100

Hi andrew_, thank you for your hard work. Rumshot is really a nice and usable tool! Since it uses .NET it theoratically could be Mono compatible. Do you think it would be possible to use Rumshot on Mono?

#409184

Where can I get more themes at? Can I use the ones from the snapshot program? And how come the Sept. timebomb?

And Andrew_....You are the man. You have no idea how long I have waited for this.

@AthleticTrainer1981

You might want to look one thread down for more themes, the one called "Rumshot Themes" ;)

Try as I might, I just cant duplicate the big bug. I'll keep an eye out for it while I'm working on the app in the future, but that's all I can promise.

The small bug is going to be a result of the msstyle or WB skin youre using messing with the control's position.

In theory, possibly. You would have to try it out and see. I dont have a linux box or access to one, so it's a shot in the dark. No pun intended..

I'll soon be starting an archive on shellscape.org/rumshot but in the mean time, check the forums here. Dont be lazy! Use the search! Thanks for the kind comments as well :)

1. open rumshot

2. take screenshot

3. popout

4. move to new location, confirm

5. select different theme

6. notice that the preview is the old location, not new.

hope that helps more. it does it every time i try.

#409300

Yeah, works fine for me.

#409353

Wow! Look's like a great app can't wait to try it! Saves the hassle for using PS

#409409

Yeah, works fine for me.

thats very weird, because i can try countless times and its always the same result. i was thinking maybe it has something to do with WB5 and its alpha masking, but rumshot didnt use to do this before this release. once you "fixed" the bug i originaly stated, this one came about. so it has to be something different in the code. i have no idea why you cant replicate it.

can anyone else try those steps and tell me if it produces the same results?

#409435

I've followed the same steps and it looks fine to me and I'm using WB5 too.

#409444

Im having trouble loading the themes, yes i read the readme

I renamed .rstheme files to zip format and extracted out the .png

after that i moved all the .png to My Documents/Rumshot Themes.

then i start up rumshot and no themes are there :/

edit: fixed

#411401

If you go to C:Documents and SettingsMy DocumentsRumshot Themes, just extract the .rstheme there. That should solve the problem for you. ;)

#411406

I have exactly the same bug as riot, changing the theme after using the Pop Out feature reverts the preview to the initial one (the first position the window was at). I seem to remember that confirming the Pop Out selection before this version meant the window stayed where you'd placed it. This bug might be related to the fact that confirming the Pop Out reverts the window to the previous position.

Sorry about being long winded, I've never been particularly good at summing things up.

#412402

Hi,

Is there an updated version of Rumshot? Or is this version still good, despite the September 1 expire time noted in the initial post?
