I love Zelda 64.. i had the emulator and rom (i do have a legal copy of it as well) and just got in a HUGE mood to play zelda on my computer.. but sadly the rom had an error and crashes at the third boss when your a kid for the blue stone... :rant:

I love emulation in all it's forms on computers. I had been doing this kind of emulation long before I discovered OS customisation.

Game speed with emulation depends on a lot of things. Your computer speed.... how optimized the emulator is, how complex the system emulated is. Some systems aren't faster than your average PC at all. But they have dedicated chips for several things which have to be emulated in software by practically one thing (your cpu) so that causes some emulated systems to be slow.

The game that seems the fastest with N64 emulation to me is Mario64 on ultrahle or corn.

Some emulators like mame aren't made for speed at all, just to preserve\document the games. So you need to throw as much hardware as you can at them for newer games.

I mostly use emulation to play old 2D games as even in this day and age of companies practically focusing on 3d I still like 2d a lot.

Er... Actually it's only legal if you're copying it as a backup of the original. It is illegal to copy and use it. Even only for 24 hours.

Ludge is correct.

BUT, on any new games (PS1/2, NGC, XB) if you were to somehow get roms/emulators for them, THAT would still be illegal (even if you own the game) because you were breaking copy protection. Luckily, the old systems didn't have copy protection.
