I need to learn Java in a hurry for a summer project, and was wondering if you guys could recommend either any online tutorials or nice books that you think would be helpful.

The first thing I'm going to do is ask you why the hell you've chosen to use Java. The second thing I'm going to do is ask you "why not something like .NET? VB or C# perhaps?" The third thing I'm going to do is grumble quietly about why I don't like Java very much.
