Cannot get USB 2.0, stuck with 1.1

Hey all

My old motherboard (which did have USB2) died due to power problems, and so did the PSU. I forked out some cash and got a better PSU and a new Asus p5vd1-x motherboard also supporting USB2. I formatted my hard disk and reinstalled windows, programs etc and the basic drivers that came with the motherboard (audio/lan/chipset etc).

Unfortunately now, I can't get USB 2...with or without the included USB drivers, every time I plug my ipod into my dock it gives me a tooltip saying "this device can perform faster at a high speed usb 2.0 port", and as goes for anything else like that (friends PSP, my wacom tablet, and my printer all do the same). I hate it because it takes so long to get everything loaded, and the ipod is the worst with that. On my old motherboard, my ipod would take a mere few seconds to load into itunes.

I've checked my bios settings, and everything that should be enabled is enabled. If need be I can post my USB bios values.

Any suggestions or help would be fantastic

is this the usb on the front of your case? a lot of times, those are 1.1 while the mains in back are 2.0.

Due to problems, I went in a few weeks ago and pulled the fs USB port connectors from the motherboard. Everything is now using the back ports.

EDITED: my main concern of this is because most of my work involves using my wacom tablet, and when I use it via USB1.1 it stutters in photoshop, manga studio, freehand, etc...thats kindof how I first noticed that I wasnt on USB2

You need SP1 or SP2 for USB2 support... don't remember which... My motherboard had a separate driver to enable USB2, and the driver wouldn't install without SP1... or SP2

My version of windows is SP1 from the CD, but I have it fully updated to SP2 (ms update).

Check the ASUS site for updated USB 2.0 drivers if you haven't already.

Just buy a USB2 add-in card for 10 bucks if you are in real need of a USB2 port.

Yeah, I have spares lying around somewhere. But I am also curious as to why I could get USB2 before, and now I can't.

Open "Device Manager", if u see a yellow questionmark or exclamation point before any of the hardware USB enhanced controllers, just select it, press DELETE, agree to any warning messages, and then just restart ur pc. What this will do is just re-initiate the USB 2.0 installation.

Check in your BIOS too, you can set 1.1 mode or 2.0 mode there. You can also set USB 2.0 Speed to Hi or Full (Hi being the fastest).
