IE 7 Fonts

Hey guys,

I just wanted to know if it is just me, but if you have downloaded the new Internet Explorer 7 Beta edition, and you see fonts like Arial or Lucida fonts, does the font look clearer and more smooth? If it is I guess it looks that way because cleartype is enabled. But is it enabled on your computer? I'm starting to think my computer is acting funny all of a sudden...

Thanks for your help!

yeah, i think the fonts in ie7, office 2k7 and vista in general look better.

You are right. ClearType is enabled by default in IE7.

yeah, which is annoying, since I have smoothed out a ****load of fonts, they look HORRIBLE in cleartype, which ie7 automatically does, even if your computer isn't set as cleartype

^ Not everyone takes the trouble to manually smooth out fonts. For the average Joe who probably does not even know that Windows allows you to smooth out fonts using ClearType, it's great and makes text in web pages look really good. The user is impressed.

Besides it's not as though Microsoft forces you to use it. You can turn off ClearType in IE7 if you wish. The option is under Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced.

weird. i always assumed cleartype was system-wide. oh, vista, how you've opened my eyes!
