Photoshop or Illustrator

Which would be more suitable for wallpapers, icons stuff like that? My cousin, a graphic designer, says that it is better to draw the things in PS and color in Illustrator. I'm not sure what to use, and I'm am really new to both of those programs. Can anyone help me?

For me, at least, the shades of blue that are displayed in photoshop are off color, some kind of purple-blue, so I suppose Illustrator would be better for coloring, if you use a lot of blues.

You may want to check your color-correction and color-matching settings in Photoshop. Personally, I turn off color management.

Raster or vector...they are very different. They are also both available to try for free.

Illustrator is more vector based, so if you want to be able to scale the image at various image sizes quickly and most effectively, I would go with that.

But again, there's Photoshop. Photoshop is more pixel-based, so if want to have a more graphic image, thats the best way to go. It's a lot more easier to get the job done too. But Illustrator has alot of good techniques to use!

Sorry if I am sounding a little contradictory, I love both apps!

Ok then, should I start with Photoshop and work on like my techniques and art, and then use Illustrator once I get good?

Typically Illustrator is used for the actual drawing if you will, then the image is taken to PS for the paint.
