Tracking an email

Well first of all I don't know if this is the right forum to post this...anyway...

the thing about this tread...

I have a friend (honestly is my friend who is having a trouble ...not the kind of story of the firend of a friend lol...really not kidding), and she is getting annoying emails from a unknown sender, even tough the sender shows a name it's a fake one as well as the email... we're pretty sure this 'sender' has been created just for this matters, and it's really getting her into trouble 'cause it's sending emails to her friends and family filled with lies... so THE QUESTION (finally!!) is if any of you guys know how to track the email adress or something like that to find out or gettin closer to know who this person is?? plz guys!!

thanks in advance!!

That would be extremely difficult for even the most experienced techy on the planet, to be honest.

Report the account to the ISP of whoever is using it. Say if it's coming from a Comcast email, report this to Comcast. They'll come down heavy on this person.

You can also attempt to do some tracking by looking at the full mail headers (how to do so depends on what mail client you're using), finding an IP address, and playing around on http://www.dnsstuff.com/. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't know what you're doing, simply because you'll quickly become lost.

I believe the first approach is the best.

It's a form of social engineering, if you send a email with certain text in it it will rely the users password to you. This is the major flaw in yahoo and hotmail. I don't know if I can/should say because i'm pretty sure it's illegal.
