Photoshop colour opacity

hey, in photoshop is there an option to change the opacity of a particular colour... kind of like if you go to hue/saturation or the replace colour tool. In that you can put the lightness all the way down untill it is completely white or black, etc. but are there anyways of selection a colour and changing the opacity? (ie. If I have a the windows xp bliss wallpaper, I could change the opacity of the blues/cyans in the image so the opacity for those colours are 100% transparent, Then I could put a different image there (ie. the Tiger blue wallpaper) and still have the clouds and hills because they are not clue/cyan...

is this possible or do I bug adobe for it in CS3?

Try this. First, duplicate the original layer then turn off the original layer. Click the selection tool then right click on the image and choose "color range" when you have it selected hit the delete key. There are other ways but for beginner I think this is the easiest.

You are looking into advanced blending, and in particular it sounds like the "Blend If" settings.
