Aqua-Soft Forumsi encryped some files on my 2nd volume, and when i formatted xp, i forgot to decrypt them before formatting, now i have files that i can't open 
is there any way to get past the encryption so i can open them?

well the point of encrypting them was because they were important, its pretty hard to let them go or duplicate them
theres also the problem that because they are encrypted i can't delete them...

also, in advanced props of sharing, try taking ownership of the files/folders.

mmh not sure I goy this... :confused: anyway, this may be the question you want to submit to a tech. newsgroup or to the microsoft support itself.
To delete- boot into safe mode and then take ownership of the files and you should easily be able to delete them.
if all you had to do was dulpicate the exact username to crack ntfs encryption i wouldnt trust is as far as I could throw it.
In the future you should send them to yourself using PGP. Then youll always have a (relatively secure) backup.
in the future, ill probably back it up to a single passworded file on a dvd, no flippin efs trouble that way

Remembering former password or username won't work because sipher key windows uses to ecrypt data is not just login+password, but a much longer value based on login and password. If you formatted xp then there's no way to decipher the data.

Yeah, tough situation.... I was in the same situation once
what i did was go to safe mode and right click the folder, like my documents and see the ownership and sharing properties, you have to be in the admin account. just click here and there and im sure you'l unlock it.
