zero XP skinner

1.) Hi folks. I have a question:

Thing is; I wrote a little tool, the core is a batchfile, and during installation it runs the UXTheme Patcher neowin version / or the universal UXTheme patcher. Now I wanted to make this tool public as a freeware tool without any costs. Is it legal to do that? What about the licence? May I give the tool to everybody?

I would be happy if you can answer me this question.

sorry for the bad english, by the way, the tool is german, and theres only a german version, and its a little crappy tool I wrote for fun.

greetings

2.)

I downloaded ca. 25 themes from belchfire.net (good looking with a .theme file), put them in a folder (and changed some of the wallpapers, cause they sucked), and my tool does following:

It tells you what it does (in german, hope to do one version in english if I have the permission to make the tool public) and what is required (system), it also tells you how to use the themes if you don’t know). If you click install, a batch/cmd file copies the themes and their subfolders to the %win%/resources/themes folder, and then it runs the UXTheme Patcher neowin version, then it restarts the system, and you can use the themes.

That’s all. A crappy simple little tool, that I wrote in school (cause I don’t like StyleXP&Co), like I said, just for fun. I Don´t want to Make money.

I need permission for the themes, and the guys from neowin/UXTheme Patcher

(or flyakites universal theme patcher) permission first, so I can give the tool to anyone, and upload it at a ZeroXP homepage.

I don´t want to get in any trouble with the copyright law or something…

Greetings

Tobi

nobody answers my eMails at belchfire.net or neowin. so I will keep tryin at belchfire.net and ask flyakite for the universal UXTheme patcher.....

PS: cool site you guys got there, I really enjoyed it.

These look handy. Have you tried sending the belchfire/neowin members private messages instead of emails?

Also, perhaps I'm misunderstanding your first tool. Are you saying it just runs a UX Theme Patcher? If so, what's the point? Anyone can just download the Patcher and do it themselves. The second tool looks very nice, though.

P.S: flyakite allows msstyle theme creators to include his tool in their releases as long as they credit him, so I suppose this is a similar case...

oh, I am so stupid, you just had to think that its 2 tools. Its just one. under point 1.) I just copied the first email to the neowin guys (I tried PM and eMail),

and point 2.) is the email to the belchfire admin, so he knows what my tool does.

And yes, my tool is simple and crappy, but its nice and I like it.

It does exactly this:

it tells you what it does (in german, hope to do one version in english if I have the permission to make the tool public) and what is required (system), it also tells you how to use the themes if you don’t know). If you click install, a batch/cmd file copies the themes and their subfolders to the %win%/resources/themes folder, and then it runs the UXTheme Patcher neowin version (or the universal UXTh. Patcher if fly allows it), then it restarts the system, and you can use the themes.

I wrote it for poeple like me who dont like styleXP & co, or poeple who dont know much about handling with PC&Programs (and my tool is simple, easy to understand). when I was done, a linux-PC-freeware geek (a classmate) told me to be carefull cause of the copyright-laws. I thought the themes and the UXThemepatcher are freeware and I could do what I want with it, but I dont want any trouble with theme author or th UXTheme author. I thought this is the end of my small project, but then I thought, well try and ask the authors/site admins if I can use their stuff and make my small freeware tool public on a little Zero-XP download site.

And thank you nightcrawler for your reply.

other replies are welcome. And if Mr. Kite reads this, please contact me.
