Glossy weather for AVE Desk ID Failed

Hello,

my english is not so good please don't be angry about.

I have a Problem:

after installing glossy weather on my ave desk i can run it. but no data will be showing. if i klick to enter zip code it will open a window to write in my zip code.

i did - and after klick ok the application says: "please give me a miniute...." and then it says: "Failed to retrieve location id"

i have tried to wirte in "toronto,canada" and a lot zips and names.. but the result is again and again the same: "Failed To Retrieve location id".....

whats the problem?

i use ave desk, avescripter and systats....

thank you for helping and heave a nice day :o)

Glossy weather is systats, I believe, but either way, all you need to do is enter a valid code. Since toronto doesn't have "Zip" codes you need to search weather.com for a valid code for it.

Here is the ID for Toronto CAXX0504

I got this by doing the following.

hXXp://xoap.weather.com/search/search?where=Toronto

Hope this helps.

I am naturally not angry about you - sorry my english is not good. I am angry about AVE Desk.

#400451

Maybe check your firewall settings?

#400463

I think Ave's response is most likely. I did get the same response with the code but, if I count to ten before clicking okay than it works.

If none of these suggestions work. Then make sure you have up-to-date versions of AveDesk & SysStats as well as MSxml

#400471

Hello,

yes, in my firewall (Zone Alarm) I allowed absolute access to the web for AVE Desk.

greetings,

marc

@ sir Smiley

i have already the latest version of ave desk and sysstats. i download it yesterday and looked that i get the latest versions.

i have count to ten and to twenty and more... and then i clicked ok but its the same problem....

thank to all although :)

Hi mpb76 -

sorry for your problem, I think they could be caused by one of the two things:

- Internet problems or

- problems of your computer with SysStats controllers

Glossy Weather is just a mod of Judge's Aero Weather - I only changed its look, but the code is still the original by Judge. I know I experienced some problems with SysStats controllers on one computer - it seems like they didn't load properly. However this might be a problem that could be solved - you don't need the controller for getting the location id, you can change values manually, too:

Go to the folder you installed AveDesk to, then to ...AveDeskDockletsSysStatsconfigs.

There you'll find a file called "glossyweather.ini". Open it with an editor - If the config is alright, you should find these two lines (line 219 & 252):

(look for "[meter-0]" and "[meter-3]" if your editor doesn't show lines)

URL=http://xoap.weather.com/weather/local/CAXX0504?cc=*&dayf=7&unit=m

URL=http://xoap.weather.com/search/search?where=toronto, canada

This is what line 219 and 252 should look like to show the weather for Toronto...

If the config file looks different/messed up, you could try installing the docklet again - if there are still problems and you think it's the contollers, you should tell Judge. The thread for "Aero Weather", where the code is from, can be found here:

http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread....ht=aero+weather

If the docklet loads up allright, but just doesn't show any weather or only the NA-icons, I think it still might be a problem with the Internet connection - do you have problems with other desklets, too, that need an internet connection?

... hope this was of some help... :)

#400564

Thank you really for your attempt to help...

but still it do not working.

I have modified the ini but its sadly not the answer.

I can start the glossy weather widget and it don't show the weather but the N.A Icon with big blue question mark.

Other Widgets that need an connection to the internet are working funktionally. For Example - searchbar (google) and AeroRSS.

It's exasperating :(

#400602

Are any other SysStats desklets working?

Because the the examples you show are AveScripter. If not than you need to reinstall SysStats.

#400623

Acutally neither one of the examples are AveScripter. I'm pretty sure AeroRSS is SysStat.

Have you tried the link i gave you in your browser?! http and not hxxp.

#400643

Oops! PCM's right.

Okay. What do you mean by this comment?

...

The link you have give is not accessible. (i had try with http: too)

weather.com isn't accessible too.

Does weather.com not come up in your internet browser at all?

If that's the case it's not SysStats or AveDesk it's a system related issue such as firewall or realtime adblocker or something similar.

#400659

@SirSmiley

yes, other systats desklets working good. only all the weather desklets don't work.

also the weather desklets vor ave desk don't work

@pcm

yes, i tried the link you give but the site do not load. i tried with http....

by the way

weather.com don't load too...

my browser show only "unknown"

thank you all very much for helping it's a great forum! even if my problems could not be solved. :)

@ sirsmiley

it's right - weather.com not come up in my internet browser...

all other sites come up perfect...

but

in my firewall is only one entry for avedesk named AVEDesk. and i allowed absolutly access to the internet...

for information

I'm using:

- Adaware

- Bit Defender

- Spybot

- Zone Alarm

is it possible that a certain windows service is fundamental? I have turn off al lot of Services in services.msc?!

#400698

Update Msxml. The link is here in the forums or go to Microsoft Downloads then type that in.

#400742

SirSmiley :)

I had update direct the Msxml...

but sadly no improvement...:(

#400753

In Folder Structure (where ever you installed) do you have the following dll's

...Program Files/AveDesk/

-SysStatsCOM.dll (version 1.0.1.11)

-hook.dll

In ...Program Files/AveDesk/Docklets/SysStats/

-SysStats.dll (version 1.0.1.11)

#400790

@sirsmiley

yes i have all the dll's (and versions) you listed!

#400791

Hi -

well, after reading your last posts I think the problem has something to do with your internet connection/ security settings:

If weather.com doesn't show up in your browser, this seems to be the reason for AveDesk not being able to connect to the site.

So you could do following to check this:

- Your security programs: If they are causing this problem, it should work, if you first switch them off all at once. If your browser then shows weather.com, start them again one by one and check which one blocks the connection (Adaware, Bit Defender, Spybot, Zone Alarm - well, Spybot shouldn't do anything).

- Your internet security settings: I guess AveDesk uses the same settings as IE - is weather.com e.g. listed as untrustworthy site or so in the IE security settings or are the setings set very high with everything disabled - scripting, java, ...?

- Do you use something else, e.g. are you using a proxy or a router that blocks certain sites (I'm not an expert on this, but I think this could be a reason, too)?

#400805

hello thewer,:)

i also think the problem has something to do with my internet connection/security.

and i checked all i know

@security programs

i checked: adaware,bitdefender, zone alarm - all seems ok and i tried do deaktivate these too. - but it wasn't the solution

@internet security settings

weather.com is not listed as untrustworthy site. the settings allow scripting, java...

@router/proxy

i have dsl and using it with the fritzbox fon wlan 7050. i don't know much about that but i looked although - find nothing it could be the reason for my problem

it seems i have to be satisfied without the weather widget :(

#400845

Well, you answered my question.

If you can't get to www.weather.com, then you got some serious problem.

I see someone else reported a problem with weather.com.

Time for me to look for another XML Source. Anyone have another one?

#401348

Hello PCM,

as a last resort i use the weather widget from rainmeter. they take the xml source code from http://www.rssweather.com

i don't know if you can need it but it work very fine as well on my pc... *smile*

Greetings,

Marc

#401384

Hey PCM

I am the other one with the same problem with weather.com. If you could change the XML source

that would be great. Forecastfox extension for Firefox is using accuweather and is working great.

Nessus

#401404

Nessus,

Unfortunately we can't use someone else's feed without explicit permission. And I'm still waiting on responses from Accuweather since last year.

PCM,

Sorry about letting things slide with MyForecast.com who (at last communication) were good to go. Was sick earlier in the year & the communication fell be the wayside. I'll get to work on that hopefully this week & pm you.

Thanks Smiley
