Closing Old threads

I know I’m relatively new here but over the past few months I’ve seen an increase in the amount of old threads being “bumped” or “resurrected” by newer members of the community just to say “great app” or “links are dead please help”

What I’m suggesting is any old threads which haven’t had a post added to them longer than say 6 months be automatically closed. I’m not saying this timescale be set in stone it’s up to the mods, I’m only giving a suggestion.

If someone wants further information added or the original author needs to add something to thread they can contact a mod to open it back up.

What’s everyone’s thought on this, and can it or should it be implemented?

Now see, I really don't like this idea, and I am not a fan when some of the staff does this.

People say search the forums, if they were to post a new thread asking about something, but when someone does actually search, and post in an old thread, they get griped at yet again. So its a lose lose situation.

I say leave em open, might spark up new discussion on something.

how about closing threads that havent been posted in for 6 months or more....maybe add a button for a request to reopen if the links are dead

Unless I'm irritated (read: yesterday), I usually don't close threads too often. For old threads that are bumped, I usually delete the offending post, so no one actually knows about it. If someone comes along with a legitimate comment, I just leave it...and I usually err on the side of caution.

this idea seems like more work and less pay off. I enjoy the old threads so that I can actually use the search function and get some kind of response. thats my 3 cents.

leave 'em, but lock 'em.

Most old thread re-opens are done by idiots who don't realize that 3 year old links just might not work anymore.

Leave them around for historical purposes.
