Digital Drawing Tablets

I am fairly new to the mac emulation scene, and I am just getting started with making my own orginal stuff. I was just wondering what all the customizers on these boards use to create their images.

I have been drawing for probably ten years now and am very comfortable with a pencil and paper in hand, but upon entering the digital art field I have found the mouse to be very cumbersome and hard to control (even with my logitech MX optical) when creating images. So, I been researching drawing tables for some time now, and I wanted to get your guy's opinions.

A tablet seems like and even more logical choice now that I have Photoshop 7, with all its pressure sensitve and tablet enhanced features and whatnot. But I am having a hard time finding a decent tablet because of my tight budget. It seems like WACOM is the most well known brand in tablets, but right now I can only really afford the Graphire2 and I don't know if that is worth the money.

I would really appreciate it, if you guys could post what you use, tablet or not, and if it is a tablet, what brand, model, price, as well as if you are satisfied with the quality and performance and where I could them for reasonable prices.

I use a tablet for drawing occasionally. Mine's pretty rubbish. A company that went out of business down the road was selling all it's old stuff (my bro got an iMac) and chucking bits and pieces out. I only got the tablet :nuts: ! It's made by a company called MediaForte and the model nuber appears to be JX-0605. It's not as precise as a mouse but much easier to do line art with.

I have a Wacom graphire 2, an 8" intuos 1 and an 8" intuos2. The graphire is definately worth the cash, it's an excellent little pad and works well with Photoshop.

Go for it.

I luv my Graphire2. The pressure sensitivity is awesome in Photoshop. I would never go back.

I used a Wacom 12" Intuous for work a few years back. LOVED IT. I want to get one of my own soon. Once you get used to it, you'll wonder how you ever used a mouse.

Thanks for the input guys, I am pretty much convinced the graphire2 is the best choice now.

One more question though, It seems like drawing area on the graphire would be a little small. Does the size hinder the usability at all, or is it sufficient for most image editing tasks?

After much thought,I finally decided to get a Graphire2. And am going to pick one up tommorrow at CompUSA. Can't wait to get started!
