Having trouble connecting to WPA Wireless Network.

Sorry for all the questions lately.

I go into network under system preferences and add my home network to the "preferred connections." I then put it in as WPA personal and I put in my password. I then attempt to connect to my network and it connects, but it changes security from WPA Personal to None. And because of that I can no longer access shared files on other computers. It's so frustrating. I have to restart airport multiple times before it connects correctly and allows me to share files. My network is obviously WPA and all my other laptops work fine. But the macbook seems to read it without security. I can connect to the internet but not to other computers. Why?
