the shadow was added in Photoshop. Notice how only the part of the menu OUTSIDE the window has a shadow. This shows that a drop shadow was added in PS.

by the way, I absolutely HATE the toolbar icons in gnome. There is a way to change them, but I can't remember. Care to help, Contra?

You have to change the "icon theme" in the Themes section of the Gnome Preferences.

In Nautilus, type: preferences:/// --> Theme --> Details --> Icons --> Adjust to your hearts delight.

No, you can add a dropshadow to Gnome. I forget how though. The only thing I did was add a dropshadow to GTK menus (comes w/ XFCE4).

Its still fake transparency though, so its slow. Its not that bad, but it has like a half a second draw period, so its not as smooth as OSX. Similar to Y'z Shadow.

The nautilus icons are part of the gtk2 theme now. since gnome 2.0 i think was the version... check out my Brushed theme as well as roberTO's Smooth Stripes. Both of which have threads in this forum.

As far as gtk shadows, none for windows yet, but the menu's can be patched to have a Shadow. there are a few different drop shadow patch's floating around, the latest seems to be pretty stable..
