The Apple "shiny Glass" Look

Okay all through this website and in lots of peoples avatars you manage to produce high quality images with the "glass over" effect that has been replicated from macs. It's a great effect and I want to redesign my website to look like that but I need to know how to do it. All i ask is how do you do it, and/or is there any tutorials on the internet that show you how it is done?

Why are there never any GIMP tutorials? I can do what the PS tutorials say, but I have to find all the functions myself. and I am VERY lazy. Smoke should do gimp tutorials. He rocks :rule:
