- Adding *.lnk/shortcuts works now, too, if your Windows version (most ones I guess) can cope with WSH / WScript

- fixed hotkey bug (AveDesk still has to be restarted to delete old hotkeys)

- fixed resize bug (set your dock up in original size and resize it then - resizing still is critical for drag'n drop support)

- added sending back desklet to desktop on hotkey (depending on hotkey)

- different method for XtraMag-effect for a try

Hi thewer, I got some more bugs for you :)

If you enter a wrong iconpath, the slot disappears, and I was not able to get it back without reloading my avedesk theme, not a big problem if you've saved, but if I hadn't...

I've been using the Bar for quite sometime now, and a thing that gets very annoying over time is the lack of response. I use it as a "Syle: Always-On-Top" and often I find myself double and even tripleclicking the icons to get the dock to respond.

Just thought you'd like to know...

Hi warius -

the problem with the icon path is what I referred to with

"Don't use empty PNG's for an icon - there should be at least one non transparent pixel left. Otherwise you might have difficulties to change this icon again later..."

However I tried this once (set the icon path and then deleted the icon) and the layer was still responding (even when not visible) - so I could rightclick it and change the setting.

If this won't work, you still could correct the icon path manually -

if it happens, save your AveDesk theme.

You then can edit the theme file in your C:documents and settings%user%program settingsavedeskthemes-folder (not sure about the path, had to translate it, but it should be similar).

If you open the file with an editor, you'll see a lot of strange letters and below a listing of all parameters. Use "Search" and look for picXY with X:number f tab (1-5) and Y:number of icon (0-9 from left to right) - you can change it there...

Sounds bit complicated, but I don't want to "blow up" the dsklet code with a lot of "if... then" if it's not a frequent bug...

Regarding the slow response, I think this will change dramatically with the upcoming version of AveDesk... For now you can only use a different effect (e.g. normal "Magnify"). Also make sure you have disabled the hotkey feature if you use it "always on top"...

The icon path thing, you can set the setting for the layer to be always doing a hittest. The property is fullhittest=true in the XML

Already did so for the 1.0 final - I think that's why it worked for me when deleting the icon...

Could be that not everyone got the latest version - at deviantArt the title wasn't updated from 1.0 beta to 1.0 final, also I changed that. :(

So it's easy to miss the update if you don't check aqua-soft or avedesk.philc.ca ...

hey well done with this it loos great. i would love to use it but it takes about a week for it to spin round to get to the options. anyway you can turn this off??? if not ill just wait for the new avedesk then ill be all over this beast. watchin you on devArt now so ill be able to keep up to date on your work. Is it only the tab that is slow to spin around or does the weather and a few other avescripter desklets also take too long to flip over?

I'm getting the following error in TabbedDock:

438 Microsoft JScript runtime error

Object doesn't support this property or method Line:879 Column:3

This error occurs when I click on the tabs at the bottom of the dock and nothing happens (except the first time I do this, the left app circle disappears). I haven't fooled with any of the settings - it's more or less the same way it came from avedesk download)

I've searched around and can't seem to find any info. I'm a novice here so it's likely something stupid on my part but any help would be appreciated.

Just started using this and I love it. I am using it a bit different that others most likely but here are my issues.

1. Some apps won't start. I believe I need to have the 'starts in' like a normal shortcut as it runs fine from explorer if I navigate to the directory and start or use the normal shortcut. I tried pointing to a shortcut, no luck, same error.

2. when flipping the icon over the file path will show the last value I entered. I.E. not the value of the current icon that I flipped.

FYI, I am using it as a 'drawer' I only show the a little bit (always on top) on the right of my screen and I slide it in, I am only using one layer and then have 3 drawers. One for racing games/FPS/Kids.. You get the idea. I LOVE it, just have a few icons that don't work..

Thanks for the great work, this was right what I was looking for as I hate a cluttered desktop but want shortcuts to certain things, this lets me get to them without having to minimize everything.

Regarding new skins: Actually I hoped that I could ask this question... ;)

Well, once I find some time again I can of course add some new skins (Suggestions?), for a start you can use any skin that has been released for other docks (Rocket-, Moby-,...) and just stretch it with e.g. Gimp (free) or Photoshop to fit the TabbedDock:

Skins normally consists of a left and a right side and a middle part that has to be stretched to fit the number of icons...

Regarding the bugs, I'm a bit at a loss right now... You seem to use the latest version of AveScripter (?! - else the flipping shouldn't work), so that's alright.

Regarding shortcuts it might help if you point to the actual "*.exe" instead of to its "*.lnk":

lnk-files should work, but I have to start lnks with the help of the so called "WScript Shell" which sometimes react a bit funny - e.g. if there are some non-english charakters in the path or so... (sometimes they work so...). "*.exe" on the other hand should be no problem, as they are handled by AveScripter.

Regarding the second problem, it sounds somehow familiar, but I can't remember what the cause was... :( If you're using it at the right side of your screen, die you rotate it via the desklet properties? Does it just show the wrong value but work alright on click?

Yes, I am pointing to the exe and it tries to launch but won't. Like the path is set to TabbedDock but the exe is only looking for files locally. If you look at a normal shortcut or a PIDL shortcut you have the starts in option. I have two applications/games that this is a problem. PIDL shortcuts or windows shortcuts work, but the dock icon pointing to the exe will not. The only difference appears to be not having a starts in path defined.

Yes, it just shows the wrong value, I have been ignoring the wrong value during setup if I know that I have set it up correct already. Like it has not refreshed the back side after the flip.

As I said, other than that it works great. I have been looking for a straight dock that I could do this with. I have tried the GID for hide and that didn't work right, this seems to work perfect but I just can't get all my apps to launch. I actually don't even need the tabbed portion. I just need a bar to put the icons on (or put pidl shortcuts on).. I couldn't find anything to do that with until this - that didn't require me to run yet another app. I like Avedesk and have been running it for some time.

Well, as I want to add some more features/make it even simpler to use (and new skins), I just started redoing it from the scratch - so I hope I can fix that bug, also it might take a while...

Do those programs start in a very specific folder/do not start anymore if you change the "starts in" attribute for the windows shortcuts?

EDIT:

Oh- and what happens, if you point to a link starting the app? It should contain the whole information and with "TabbedDock" I added launching links (via Windows Scripting Host - maybe that's causing problems?!)

So, I hope I make some progress soon, I'm redoing it also as I want to use VBScript instead of JavaScript, which gives me a lot more possibilities I found...

Yes, the two programs in question do not start if I remove the path statement from the Starts In box from either a regular windows shortcut or a PIDL shortcut

I did a link/shortcut from my desktop and dragged it onto the bar. The app would not start even though it did start using the shortcut. I manually pasted the path to the .lnk (including the .lnk) into the File Path box and the application still doesn't start.

I started editing the XML for myself since I don't care about a tabbed dock, I really only need a straight dock that I am using like drawers from the side of my screen (have them sliding in equal to the number of icons 'in' the drawer). I am not much of a Java/XML programmer so I wasn't going to touch the backend. Maybe I will look at the calling functions and see if I can find anything to help.

My time is consumed with work/family also, so I completely understand. I will say that 3 of my neighbors have seen my 'drawer' effect and want it also! Great work, I do still love it.

Hi there -

I think I found a solution (I messed this up originally by only extracting the path to the *.exe from the shortcut and start that instead of getting all information :( ).

So I changed a few lines in the javascript file and it should work now if you use a shortcut/Link instead of the real program (the link contains all information).

So, please try this:

Go to the directory of "TabbedDock" (C:programs...AveDeskDeskletsAveScripterTabbedDock).

There's a file called "main.js":

- Back it up (in case the new file is not really compatible - I'm not sure I changed more stuff since the last release..)

- replace it with the new "main.js" from this zip-file...

- restart AveDesk/reload the AveDesk Theme...

This should work - please give me some feedback if it does, so I can use it for the next release, too :)

Ok, it is working now... I am still using the two version that you emailed me, but I installed AveScripter 1.0.7 and now the application that was not working IS working now.

I went and used _1, _2, and _Test (_1 was the one you sent in this thread) and all three work with the new AveScripter. I did NOT try to use the original file.

But heck, its working!! Thanks for the prompt updates/debugging.

1. I can't seem to add "my computer". how can I do this? (everything else work)

2. How can I delete extra empty shortcuts? or extra tabs?

3. How can I set the icons layout a little curvier?
