PS benchmarks

Not sure if this should be in this section....if not, feel free to move it.

anyway, just for fun

In Photoshop, make a new RGB white bg 8x10 300ppi document. Open Add Noise and set to Uniform, Monochromatic, 400% and click OK. Then open Radial Blur, set to Amount 100, Method Zoom, Quality Best but do not hit OK yet.

As you hit OK, start timing. Continue timing until the filter finishes, then stop.

Report the time back here along with your machine specs.

Jeeze, I was doing that a while ago for a book cover I was working on (doing an iris), and I was literally sitting here for 5 minutes at the least.

500MHz PIII, 128 Megs 'O RAM, 20 GB ####RPM, PS 7.0, Windows XP Pro. Damn right baby, top of the line ;) .

Not that I've to usually work on files this big. But anyway, I knew that Radial Blur is used as PS performance benchmark. I decided to give it a try anyway.

Following are the results

Time : 56.3 seconds

System : Pentium D (Dual-Core) 3.0 GHz + 945GNT Intel Mobo + 1 GB DDR2 @533MHz ram (in Dual Channel Mode) + 160 (x2) GB SATA drives + GeForce 6600GT PCIex 256mb

System: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.1 GHz, 200 GB 7200rpm, 2GB DDR @ 400 MHz ram, GeForce 6800 OC 128mb.

My Friend's System (XP MCE 2005)(CS2)

Time 1:06.06 (Normal CPU Priority)

System: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ @ 2.59 GHz, 200 GB 7200rpm, 2 GB DDR @ 400 MHz ram, GeForce 7800GTX 256mb.

Yes, but Photoshop is not universal, yet. I'm sure CS3 will have much better results.
