Classic Os 6 Apps

I wanna start learning the Classic OS so I'm starting w/ OS 6 and a Multi Finder...

Are there like any good Office suites for Mac that are free or opensource...

I only have 4MB of RAM and 40MB HD.. so...

Why? OS6 is so 1995. At that rate, why not learn how to use a RECORD PLAYER!

Honest to god, they had those once.

Woah, Contasutra  ! We should bless all form of mac adulation, even the archaic! I love abandonware, computer history etc!

I've got an old SE/30 at home with OS 6 and 7.5.5 on it, jus' for old time's sake!

To answer the question, there are lots of sites around with old Mac software on them - just try a google search for "Mac Emulation" or "Old Mac Software" or "Mac System 6 software" etc and see where your surfing takes you!

(I would post some links, but the licenses of some of this (yes, Contra) ancient stuff is still occasionally questionable!

Good Luck!

Oh yeah - there is also an audiophile set that says vinyl sounds better than CD (something to do with analogue wave generation instead of digitised bit-rate "step" in the waveform.

The only thing faster than OS 6.0.8 an Finder 6.1.8 is mac OS 1.1g!!

I'll do some google tommorow!

ihartmacz: I've got a ton of old mac floppies full of programs (MacWrite, MacPaint, MacDraw, MS Word4, etc.) laying around somewhere. If you can't find anything online holler at me ASAP and I'll see if I can't sort you out.

For all things pertaining to classic Macs, google "Jag's House". This is an awesome site for all classic apps, games, etc. Have fun.

Ah, I love classic os! (Y) If I had an my old Mac, I'd help you out, but I gave it away to someone who needed a Mac desperately. :(

Yeah - My Mac SE/30 boots to desktop in.......

SIX SECONDS

That's from flicking the power switch to opening apps (or old games - some classics!).

6.0.8 was written in assembly - no internal translation for the CPU required (well, almost none) - OS 6 "talked the machine's language". Brilliant, and at the time (before M$ "borrowed" the GUI) - groundbreaking.

In fact, the genealogical reason why this Aqua site is even able to exist!

10 seconds! I am sad because the CMOS battery is dead so I have to reset most/all the settings after startup...

@clockwise:

Emulate it!

Already did,

I am emulating Mac OS 8.1 w/ Microsoft Word 5.1 and 48MB RAM w/ 350 MB HD on a perfo!

#36682

Why not just replace the battery? They are $2.

By the way, a CMOS can't have a battery :smartass:

You should try to run the first version of linux on a 386. That would be fun.

#36685

Tell me where i can find a build of Linux for 386, ill put it in VPC, and ill post screenies
