i try dragging my recycle bin onto the dock and it wont go? same with my computer
what do i do
...and to remove it from your desktop (don't think you want two trashcans) use gpedit.msc. Type it in your start>run menu.
To get your Recycle Bin, use the Recycle Bin Docklet (Add Docklet).-NC
alright
but i cant right click it... something is wrong
You can't right-click the docklet, or you can't right-click the dock in order to add the docklet?
-NC

Dang, and I contributed to both.

I tried the "gpedit.msc." but my computer tells me that it can't find it, and asks me to type in the name correctly". what am I doing wrong?
You're on XP Home. gpedit.msc only exists in Windows XP Professional (and presumably some versions of Vista, etc.)
-NC
this is the way I do it:
for My Computer, I have a shortcut that leads to: "shell:drivefolder"
and for the recycle bin: "shell:recyclebinfolder" (because the recycle-docklet uses too much cpu)
this is how the itemlist looks like:
[RKDockItem]
type = shortcut
name = Computer
icon = icons/Tiger Mac.png
link = shell:drivefolder
show = normal
[RKDockItem]
type = shortcut
name = Recycle Bin
icon = icons/trash_full.png
link = shell:recyclebinfolder
show = normal
works like a charm...
Easiest way to remove recycle bin from desktop without loosing it in explorer: tweakUI!
for My Computer, I have a shortcut that leads to: "shell:drivefolder"
unforunately, it seems that RKLauncher uses default browser to launch URL protocols.
No problem if you use IE, but the effect on my computer is that it loads Opera to open recycle bin ![]()
I use firefox as default browser, and I don't have any problems... strange
I just checked.. build 258, with Firefox its the same except that Firefox won't handle shell protocol at all. It just displays empty tab.
Its funny that when I right click the shortcut it displays specific options like "empty recycle bin". So the shortcut is somehow correctly resolved internally by RKLauncher, but it is executed in default browser, not explorer.exe as it should.
I found the solution for those of you with FireFox.
LINK: c:program filesInternet ExplorerIEXPLORE.EXE
ARGUMENTS: shell:drivefolder
Works like a charm for me. Change your IE folder as necessary.
I found a better way:
Link: explorer.exe
Arguments: shell:drivefolder
in that way, windows doesn't need to start iexplorer every time...
