The 15-posts-to-use-hyperlinks rule

It seems that the "you'll need 15 posts before you can use hyperlinks" rule introduces another phenomenon: spamming until you'll get 15 posts.

Maybe it's an idea to also require a greater interval between two posts for 15

Look at lemondesign: 15 posts saying "thank u" or alike. The 16th post was one with a hyperlink to his icons :)

yeh I was laughing at how many posts he replied back

It should be.. "Constructive Comments"

We're working on implementing a one-month period before people can post hyperlinks.

And don't blame us, thank spammers for this.

Report it and we will ban them and their ip ranges. We do not tolerate this crap.

I'll be adding posting limits too, like what gamefaqs does. 1 post per hour or something of that nature.

Well, the guy was no spammer at all. He wanted to share a set of his icons with us, only he wasn't allowed to post a hyperlink.

However, I thought it would be a technique that is going to be used by future spammers to circumvent the anti-hyperlink thingy.

Well someone wanting to share stuff or not, posting 15 times in such a little time is kinda sad. You can still create the link just can't have the text as a hyper link. I mean if its a valid thread, staff can turn it into a real link / image.

I dont know if that would be a great idea, especially with a hot topic discussion on hand, you really want to be in the topic and posting back and forth. Maybe you guys can assign more moderators, even if they have no ability to ban users, they will be the authority to report to as well as you admins.

The more people you have watching for problems like spamming or flaming, the better the chance of lessening the problem in the long run. I think that to post a hyperlink, before you have 15 post, (which should be higher, maybe 25 or even 30) the link should be approved by a few members, mods or admins, to assure we even want to see it on the website. That way, they dont have to waste time spamming or posting for something not worth our while.

Indeed. It was pretty irritating having to remove all of those posts. I left his release thread intact too--he could have just asked me or another mod to create a link for him!

I agree with Timan that posting 15 times in such a brief period is kinda sad.

So what are we going to do about it?
