2 ipods on 1 pc

a friend of mine asked me if she could have 2 ipods, each with their own library, on one pc and here's what i told her: i told her that as long as they log in to xp with separate accounts, each person could sync up their personal ipod with their personal itunes library with no problems. is this correct?

thx.

she could have two installations of itunes, each with their own itunes library.xml files and it would work....with one user

I have a related question--if one has two USB connections, can they plug in two iPods at the same time? What will happen? I'm afraid to try for fear that one of the libraries will be erased or something.

-NC

nothing happens....if you hook up two ipods to one pc with one itunes install the ipods both just come up....itunes doesnt get confused and give its music to the wrong ipod its not that stupid....you would have two seperate libraries on your ipods (one each). these no need to log into separate accounts unless you want two seperate itunes libraries one for each account

2 ipods one account, one library, individual playlists in folders... that way if you want some otf the other user's music it can be gotten!

all helpful comments, thx. perhaps a little clarification...

these two people with these two ipods are mother and daughter, and have NO common ground for music at all. so here's how i envisioned this thing working: daughter sits down, logs in to her account, illegally dl's some music, plugs in her ipod, syncs up, logs out and goes to the mall. mom then sits down, logs in to HER account, rips some cd's, plugs in HER ipod, syncs up, logs out and raids daughter's room looking for shwag.

that should work, right? cuz mom's library will be c:documents and settingsmommy documentsblah blah blah and daughters will be c:documents and settingsdaughtermy documentsblah blah blah. right?

you can make the desired ipod only sync up to a desired playlist so that all they have to do is plug in their ipods and their ipods will be updated with more music

Yes... this will work.

My wife and I both use the same computer for storing our music.

Her iTunes library is under her login profile (like you have stated above) and mine is under my login profile.
