this affects IE. the minute i open IE (6.0) about 58 pages popup, all with the address mp3271.com
google gives me only 1 result at neowin 
apparently they couldn't fix it either.
does anyone know what i can do? because spybot doesn't recognise it and it's annoying because the rest of my family uses IE. it can really slow your computer to have 59 open IE windows... :/
Update Spybot, run it and Windows Defender. Still does not find the culprit? Then download Hijack This!, direct download link; run it, then output the report it generates as a text file and post it on the Hijack This! forums on Major Geeks.com directions here. There ubergeeks will go over the report and tell you if they found anything nasty. They will then tell you how to neutralize and remove the bastard.
Another thing you can try is to go back to a previous Restore Point although I doubt that will help. And if all else fails, (This is the last resort, Nuclear Option) back up the data you want save (rather important), format the drive, and reinstall Windows.
Once you get this sucker off your system you need to lock down IE and Windows. Turn Automatic Updates ON! Download Spy S&D and Spyware Blaster Link install them and let them run in the background to help detect new infestations. And if you can, strongly urge your family to switch over to either Firefox Link or Opera Link as both are far less vunerable to browser hijacks and other nastieness. Also get a firewall (Zone Alarm, a good free firewall and use it. Make sure you have an antivirus package on you machine that is updated. Recommendations include: AVG Free, a free antivirus package or Clamwin a free open source antivirus. Finally if you or anyone that uses that machine uses P2P networks, then stop as many of the files on the P2P networks are infected with various Trojans, worms and other malware. There are a number of other ways to lock down your system, some of which are quite geeky.
Xinh did a good job helping... i also recommend you get a firewall bit i found Zone alarm to bloated, i loved it but then it started to come with too many add-on.
I have got quite of experiance dealing with malware attacking my system but by using some common sense and the programs I listed above, I have not been infected. I have done some other things to lock down my system and for a Windows machine it is pretty damn secure (knock on wood here 
)

xp sp2 w/ automatic updates
sygate personal firewall -> serves me brilliantly, not one bit of spy/mal/adware or virii ever, except for this
avg 7.1
spybot S&D - updated yesterday
i personally use ff but the family is used to IE and won't switch over anytime soon... you know how it is with old habits
uninstall ie and ether install ie7 beta2 or reinstall ie, i think that might work. good luck, and i am surprised spybot s&d did not detect anything, i have had good luck with them. if that doesnt work then send a private message and i can tell you what to get and where to get it to fix it and it will be free.

if they wont switch over to ie, why not make ff look like ie instead?
