iTunes transfer to iPod messes up file system

I keep my mp3 folders organized, when I installed iTunes it also organized for me, and it looked just fine, but when I uploaded the songs into my ipod, they were all messed up.... anyone could help me to organize them?

They are automatically renamed to try to stop you sharing them around.

There was a thread recently about copying songs off your iPod if that is what you want. But if you want to keep them usable by you iPod and still use iTunes they have to stay this way I think.

*Edit* This is the thread I was talking about http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread....ipod+copy+files

What do you mean "they were all messed up?"

Well, I'm at work right now, but I can't wait to get home and fix it. Last night I did something in iTunes and it renamed ALL my songs in my MP3 folder... man I was pissed.

NC, I meant messed up like this

Notice how there is a bunch of "Mariah Carey" folders instead of a single one like I have on my computer.

Well I dont think there is any easy way to change that.

You will need to go thru and change all the names manually. I move the "feat...." to the song title so that I don't get lots of artist menus like yours. You have to realise that the songs on the ipod are not stored in artist folders like on your HDD- the menu hierarchy is created from the metadata.

Yeah, I usually move these songs to the iPod and then change the IDv3 tags (by using the Get Info right-click command).
