Cutting off music/ Wrong music length

I've noticed this a few times before, but never really worried about it because it was only a few songs, most that I never listened to, but now I realized that it's aucutally more relavant than I thought. It seems that iTunes is cutting off alot of my songs, some by so much as a minute or more. When I go to the file itself and play it in Winamp, it plays the correct legnth, but in iTunes it only plays 1:10 of the song when it's 3:24. I noticed when looking at the file itself that it was 1.10 mb....could it may be that iTunes is reading the file wrong? I tried deleting all my music out of iTunes and reloading it in, but it just did the same thing again. If anyone has any suggestions for this, I'd much appreciate it!

Thanks,

Brian

It has happenned to me with a few songs more than once. Usually with downloaded mp3s. Sometimes, especially in the old p2p networks, a few bytes in the song are skipped and a small gap (no more than a few msecs long) is created. Winamp plays the whole song because of the different way it understand mp3. iTunes has a tendency to stop at the first gap (not silence) and considers that to be the end of the song, even though it displays the true length in properties. It has also happenned to me with mp3s I downloaded with download managers and accelerators.

Only solution? Either play these songs in winamp only, or redownload them.

PS If it happens to songs that used to play correctly in itunes but suddenly become problematic, maybe your HD has a serious need of diskcheck and defrag.

i have an album in which all of the songs, winamp plays and recognises the correct lengths, whilst itunes reads a 5 minute long song as 1 hour or more.

this makes it hard to scroll to a point on the song when playing, as well as the fact its obviously inaccurate. i tried changing the stop time under each song's info but it doesnt seem to do anything...what else can i do?

foobar has a "Fix Mp3 header" option which allowed me to fix the incorrect lengths reported for a few of my mp3s in iTunes. Interestingly WMP showed the correct length for me too.
