CD/DVD icons messed up

Hi to all,

I'm very new here and was hoping someone can help me.

I have a strange problem that occurred once FlyAKite OSX3.5 was installed on my PC. Everything works fine except every time I load a CD or DVD and look in the drive at the contents, all the icons for the drive content seem to be covered with a brown circle with a an X in the middle. It does not matter which CD or DVD I put in, it does the same thing.

I have an image here of my desktop showing this for clarification at http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/3935/desktopra8uz.jpg

Thank you in advance for any help.

Have you tried refreshing your icon cache using TweakUI?

I don't have TweakUI. Do you mean to run 'Rebuild Icon Cache' from the FlyAKiteOSX Tools sub-menu?

Well I just ran it, and I think it worked. Thank you so much.

I guess if it happens again I'll just keep running that tool.

Just a follow up question.

How often do you normally have to rebuild icon cache? I ask because earlier today I did that and my DVD drive content icons were back to normal after rebuilding the cache.

But later the same day it started doing that again so I ran the icon cache builder again and it’s fixed. It makes me wonder though if I'm doing something that I shouldn't be to cause this to happen.

All I can think of is I run the windows disc cleanup utility often which I have it set to erase the following:

-Downloaded program files

-Temp Internet files

-Offline WebPages

-Recycle Bin

-Temporary Files

I'll experiment a bit more and try to narrow down the cause.

I'm starting to narrow it down a bit.

I just figured out that every time I either restart the computer or Log off from my user account, when I log back in the problem is back.

Can anyone guess what's required to resolve this? It's a pain to have to run Icon Cache Rebuilder every time I log off or restart the pc.
