itunes organization question

i'm at work. i'm at my desk. i've got itunes 6.0.4.2 on wxp. my library is on another pc (my own lil' server, woot!). so, if i go to edit|prefs|advanced|general, i can enter the path to my library, which i have done. the real, actual path is

jccc-appsmusica.

at this point, i would expect 'library' to be populated, right? but it isn't until i go file|add folder and add the entire music folder. no big deal, except every time i add an album to my library at the server, i have to manually add that folder on my pc, which is a PITA compared to having the library be live. so...

am i doing something wrong? or am i asking too much from itunes?

the only way i know to have "live" additions is to allow itunes to organize your music... but who wants that mess?!

I have to physically drop the files every time i want a new album added to the xml library. so for your case, im assuming you are telling it to import from jcc-appsmusicanew album each time? that seems like the same thing im doing, just remotely

thx, that's what i figgered. yeah, 'keep itunes music folder organized' has to be the biggest POS mistake apple has made in a long time.

well its fine for people who are lazy and dont mind have layers upon layers of folders... not to mention 100 folders called unknown...

could you imagine using that feature back in the days of napster when no files had tags and the few that did were wrong...

It's not a fault of apple. It's just that the library is an xml. iTunes doesn't look into the folder to see what is there. It just puts in the xml whatever you add to the library. It is a PITA, but it's not anybodys fault. WMplayer has pretty much live monitoring, because it is hardwired to the os. and then only if you point the my music folder to where you have the mp3s...

If only they had thought of customizable folder structure. I would let itunes organize my library automatically, if only it used a itunesgenreartistalbum structure... and no frickin unknowns...

It would be nice if it would move songs from unknown album folders to the actual album folders after you edit the tag.
