RK Launcher Crashes

Sometimes when I shut down RK Launcher appears to exit fine. Then when I start my computer the next day all my icons and settings are gone and it just shows the Dock with 1 Seperator. Is there anyway to recover the previous settings?

If u have a backup from your configuration u can. If u don-t have it...ooopsi!

(Been there done that!)

#385245

do you shut down rk or do you only shut down your computer

rk saves the settings on exit, not if it closed per taskmanager or if you shut down your computer

after configure of rk, right click on the dock, select exit

start rk again if the settings are kept, they will stay

if not, check that you have the rights to edit the config files

Thanks you for your help. The funny thing is though that I had shut down my machine 5 times prior and it had retained the settings.

I am always shutting down my computer without exiting RK and never happened to lose configuration. When I lost my config was when RK encountered an error and needed to close ('cause of ntdll If I remember corectly ).Now I have a backup schedule. Not the smartest Idea but if I lose the config actually I don't.

(All this time I was Talking about RK 239 build 'cause 246 doesn't work for me)

#385459

what do you mean by "246 doesn't work for me" ?

I'm sure you didn't overwrite a dll or you didn't copy the language file and so on...

Ya i get it now! When I choose settings or add docklet rk just crashes!

#387626

are you sure you have updated the RKLauncher.conf file which has 2 new sections ?

I'm sure if you download the zip file and put it into a completely new folder (unziping the folders also) everything will work fine...

I noticed that a lot of people have no ideea how to correctly unzip a file...

Also if you unzip it in the same folder there's a big posibility that one of the DLLs is in the memory and cannot be overwritten...

using a stupid unzipping app won't notify you about not being able to unzip it completely... so I'm 100% sure that's the case here

so please proove me wrong ;)

I have no idea how to prove u wrong!

I use 7zip. Rightclick on the zip file and from the 7zip menu I choose "Extrage in ". Then I run (open) rk and when I choose Settings or Add Docklet or Dock item Properties it crashes.

I am using 7zip for a year and never have any problems! Anywho, i tried even with winrar and is happening the same.

Sorry, man, but I was not the only one that had this problem:

See this and this and this.

PS. Not sure that this will help or even if is relevant but u could check this out.

#387729

please tell me the exact contents of the RKL folder after unzipping with file sizes and subfolders too

#387744

also please show me the contents of the RKLauncher.conf file

Here

PS: message to short so...

#387750

looks ok to me... I wonder what could be wrong...

so it crashes even on a clean install ?

#387764

Ya! Straight out of zip file!

Raduking,

I'm in somewhat of a similar situation. I've been working fine with 246 until last night when I booted up my laptop - RKLauncher didn't start. I tried to start it manually and it wouldn't run. When I deleted the info for the Yzstartmenu docklet out of my itemlist.conf file RK would start. When I select add docklet RK crashes. I can select settings and modify the settings. My system did one update yesterday. The program updated was the symantec protection agent to version 5.1 yesterday morning. I did have to reboot after that update and RK worked then. I'm at a loss to figure out what might have changed to cause the problem.

Let me know what I can do to give you more info.

Thanks,

SMF

#387796

have you tried a clean install ?

#388100

Raduking,

I just did a COMPLETELY clean install and adding a docklet works. After much playing I've narrowed down the problem. When I add Andreas' Startmenu docklet (file attached) into the docklets directory (I put it in its own sub-directory) and then select "add docklet" on the context menu RK crashes. I just downloaded a fresh copy of the docklet and it didn't help. The strange thing is that I've been using the docklet for some time and it works fine on my home computer. I've included the file for you to test with.

Thanks,

SMF

raduking,

I also wanted to offer additional assistance if there is any testing or info that I can provide to help narrow down the issue - I really miss having the startmenu docklet available.

Thanks,

SMF

@Radu: This is kinda offtopic but have you tried to fix that bug I told you about, thanks for the continuing betas and updates ;)

Hi,

I cannot seem to edit RK Launcher to change dock item properties & icons. Whenever I do it crashes and does not save the changes. I can drag and drop onto the dock with no problems at all. I had to edit the itemlist.conf file by hand. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong?

I did a reboot and deleted all rk files and did a clean install but still the same problem. It seems that when I right click on a dock item even if I do not change a thing it crashes RK.

Thanks

i get the same symptoms as mentioned in the first post in the thread- but it only started after i started using systats/gmail docklet..

i'm guessing there is a problem with how it handles docklets. or maybe an incompatibility with systats.

#393392

Exactly the same thing here. I downloaded the latest nightly, everything else the same=

cannot access setting of rk dock, it crashes. Going to a dock item properties it also crashes..
