Right click on the desktop and select properties. Then select the "appearance" tab and select advanced. Then under "items", select "Icons" and change the font to whatever you want.

Brevity's answer does change the font in the window. The taskbar font is defined in the visual style that you're using, so you'll have to edit that in order to change the font, or alternatively switch theme. Turning on cleartype would probably make your current fonts look more attractive.

Use these Registry entries at your own risk. These will change the default windows fonts, such as Dialog Tabs, and other previously un-changeable font, to whatever you please.

• MS Shell Dlg 2

Double click them and change the value to thefont name of your choice. MAKE SURE TO SPELL IT RIGHT.

Did you try Styler yet?

I once encountered the problem as the one you are facing now. Then I evenutally found this which can change the font of the taskbar and many others. And it doesn't require you to edit the registry entries at all, you can simply apply fonts by several clicks. But you have to pay for it after free trial.
