Sound fails suddenly

Hey, any help would be appreciated. Ever so often the sound on my PC goes really quiet suddenly. This cannot be tuned back up and a reset of the PC is the only option. Im using iTunes but not sure if this is the problem. No idea what the cause is, and it might not be solvable , but you never know

When you say reset, do you mean restarted? Or whole "unplug-the-system" type thing?

Does it shut off completely? Can you see anything change, or do you only hear the difference? Do the sound levels (from the Volume system tray shortcut) remain the same? What happens if you try playing something in Windows Media Player?

It always helps to be specific (even in the title too). It helps even more to place your thread in the right forum--a good way not to get it closed.

Hey, sorry about the misplace. It's system wide sound! For no apparent reason. WMP is no different, and it's just a normal restart of PC All system levels are the same, all settings are OK. Its not off completly, but have to turn independant speaks very very loud, only to hear quietly!

Hmmm, perhaps try replacing the sound drivers? Be careful though ...
