Well, with that assumption... That icon isn't Mac OS X or Windows default so it doesn't have any "specific" purpose...

That was my inference from the post I directed him to.

Being that the Space Shuttle Columbia or any likeness could not be used legally for any product/service without NASA's official approval/license.

Technically, the Icon itself is in violation but, I won't tell if no one else does.
