Looking for a client management system

I'm familiar with Wiredrive:

But, for my new client it's too expensive.

I've also, used Basecamp:

http://www.basecamphq.com/

But, this one has too many features and not the right "look"

My client wants something very simple, I'm tempted to just build it on my own. Before I go that route I'd like to know if there are cheaper versions of something a lot like Wiredrive or maybe anthother system that you've used to allow clients to view uploaded material, create a username, etc...

Any suggestions will be great.
