i was wondering if anyone knew if i can use faster memory with an older motherboard. like my computer is using 392MB of PC-2100 so i was wondering if i would be able to add a 512MB stick of PC-3200 memory to have 768MB (512 of PC-3200 and 256 of PC-2100) i figure the faster memory will just run at PC-2100 speeds, but i might be wrong.

You can put in faster RAM. It will run at the same speed as the slowest module (2100.)
yes your faster ram will run to the lowest speed ram in your system. check to see if your motherboard can truly run pc3200 through the net, if it can then just sell your pc2100 ram and get a pair of pc3200 dual channel ram.
i'd check if the motherboard supports it, but its a dell so i don't know what the motherboard is, nor do i know how to figure that out, it came with pc2100, but pc3200 isn't more expensive and if i happen to upgrade anytime soon i could use the same memory for that system.
download cpu-z or pc wizard and it should tell you the exact model of your motherboard, and you can find out from there. if you can run dual channel, get 512X2 pc3200 man. itll give your pc a huge boost.

hey there guys.....ive got 768 mb pc2700 memory at the moment. (one 512mb module and one 256mb module of ram. If i get another 512 module will it run in dual channel?.....of course it will be from the same manufacturer and the same grade.....can pc2700 run dual channel?....or does it have to be dual channel pc2700?
