Problem opening Office, MSN Messenger and Firefox programs!

Hi, I recently downloaded Rklauncher, and I think it's great. But there are a few problems that I have found with it, and I've looked all over these forums for some answers, but to no avail.

I have added Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel and Word to rklauncher. But whenever I click on them, nothing happens, this is the same with MSN Messenger and Mozilla Firefox. I've right-clicked and selected dock item properties on every single one of them, telling them the link to the program that I want them to open, but still nothing happens.

An even weirder thing that happens is when I try to open MSN Messenger. Instead of nothing happening at all, I get a black box titled "C:WINDOWSINSTAL ~ 1CEB3AMsllco.exe" and a pop-up box saying that the "NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction" Now I have no idea what this is all about, all I want is for these programs to actually work when I click on them on rklauncher! Is that too much to ask? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Don't go melodramatic on me boy..

Check if they are linking to the right spot by clicking right on an icon and then choose Dock Item Properties. Hey and search the forum, I'm sure there has been a thread about this.

You're probably dragging the wrong file to the dock.

Easy guys, he's experiencing a valid problem here.

Kaenite, right-click on your e.g. Word dock icon, select "Dock Item Properties"

I reckon the entry in the "Link" field looks like this:

C:WINDOWSInstaller{90110407-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}wordicon.exe

clicking on an icon in a dock that links to this results in nothing

A path like this occurs with some programs, SmartFTP for example.

You just need to point the path to the actual .exe file, I suppose this applies to the other programs as well.

I've recently installed the rk launcher and I'm having the above problem. I want to add "new office document" and "open office document" shortcuts to rk launcher, so I can get rid of the office shortcut bar as I use those 2 shortcuts most often. Unfortunately I cannot find the .exe for either of these and if could find them I would have no idea what to do with them.

Can anyone help? I've had not luck trying to get help anywhere else. Even the person who suggested rk launcher to me can't offer any solutions! If you can, please make them very simple to follow because I am stupid. Thanks.

I also experienced the same problems with Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office Items not working in RK Launcher. Philou is right in that you have to find the right path. Usually, u need the .exe file. However, with microsoft office items, you will not find any .exe files - trust me I tried But here is what you have to do.

After dragging the microsoft office items in rk launcher...

(I'm going to use Word as the example):

1. Right click on the Word icon and click "Dock Item Properties"

2. Go to "Link" box and delete whatever that is in the box

3. Enter or paste the bottom link in the "Link" box in RK Launcher

"C:documents and settingsadministrativeStart MenuProgramsMicrosoft OfficeMicrosoft Office Word 2003.lnk" (or)

"C:documents and settings*Your Username*Start MenuProgramsMicrosoft OfficeMicrosoft Office Word 2003.lnk"

4. That's it - the icon should open Word

- Just repeat these steps for other microsoft office applications. Just change the Microsoft Office Word 2003 to "Microsoft Office Excel 2003.lnk" (for instance)

* Note: If you don't want to have do all those name changing for each application, you can also do this...

1. Right click on the icon and get to the clear the "link" box (just like the above)

2. Copy this link into the "Link" box

3. You will notice that the link box will drop down with a few already completed links. If you make the drop down box bigger, you will see the specific links for each Micro Off. Applications. So then all you have to do is click on the desire "Microsoft Office Word 2003.lnk" file or "Microsoft Office Excel.lnk"...etc.

**NOTE: Do not use the browse button next to the "link" box to locate the applications, it will not work.

I know that both the procedures above are very similar, but the second is a lot easier and faster b/c it doesn't require you to type in anything, just copy and click on the desired links.

I read that some people experience the similar problems with files and stuff like that, I personally have not experience such problems, but I think the solution is similar to that with MO Applications - You just have to find the right path or .exe file and type/Paste it in the "Link" box.
