Need to create "snapshot" style images

Sorry for the lame thread title... what I'm after is some sort of utility that will take an image file (tiff, jpg, gif, etc..) and add a small white border to give it the look of a typical printed snapshot or maybe even a polaroid snapshot. Take a look how my avatar appears with the white border. That's what I mean...

Edit: I saw the post about the "polaroid-o-nizer" but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I need something I can download and run on my computer (Mac or PC).

on a mac, you could probably make a simple snapshooter border and use that

Jef, do you mean something like Rumshot but, for any pic basically?

There's a rather "lame" workaround--use DeskPhoto (released here, I can find you a link if you need one) or one of those apps that shows the specified image with a special border around it. It's a widget type thing, but you can screenshot your desktop and then crop it.

-NC

Ok. Sorry Jef for not understanding. You can do this with a simple script or plugin for GIMP and of course probably easier in PS.

If you mean specific app to select pic then apply border. I have one on my dead laptop just can't think of the name. If I come across a soldering iron in the next few days I'll post it here.

What do you need it for? If for web, border defined via CSS would be enough. If for other stuff and assuming that you have Photoshop, it'd be easy to create an action for that.

It's not for the web... it's for putting in a document so I need to be able to create the images on my computer. I'm looking for a simple solution... I didn't want to have to jump throught a lot of hoops to get this done.

Do you have Photoshop? If yes give me details about these frames - I could make a PS action for you ;)

Yes... I have Photoshop... I just need a simple white border. Similar to what you see in the iPhoto dock icon (or Preview dock icon) on OS X.

Ok then, let's see if you like it. Download attached file, double click it and it should appear in Actions pane in Photoshop. You can assign a hotkey for it or even use it via FIle>Automate>Batch.. command:
