Is There An App For This?

Heya all.

I´ve just registered to you lovely OSX-costumizing comunity (Y)

Great stuff here.

Anyway, I got two questions:

Is there an application or some suite, which will allow me to zoom

open Windows (eg. Internet Explorer) to a Desktop-Icon (like in OSX 10.2)?

Cause I saw this by a friend of mine (who has a mac) and found it awesome.

Is the Objectbar from Stardock any use for actual working or is it buggy?

Is it a systemhog or does it run fluenty?

On your first question it's something calls PopOpen. You can find this here.

I'm not sure if this wath you are looking for. I've downloaded this app today morning and hadn't tested yet.

On your second question OB is very good app. You don't have a big choose. OB or WinMac.

Thanks for the quick answer.

But what I mean is a new feature in OSX which acutally allowes you to minimize your current windows to a miniature-window (about as big as an icon) on you desktop. So you actually have a really small windows which opens if you doubelclick on it and you can move it around like icons.

I think I saw it on some pic of someone who had this effect on a PC, but I´m not sure what he used for a program (maybe it was ObjectDesktop?!?). :blink:

What dachs is talking about is an app called MIP (Minimize In Place). It just minimizes a window to the desktop.

What the zoom effect of CLOSING/OPENING (not minimizing) a window, is that it 'grows' out from the icon on the desktop when the icon is double-clicked. Or it shrinks to the icon when the window is closed.

Actually, no I was asking if someone could make a standalone app that can do this.

In litestep there is the iconbox module which tries to simulate the Enlightenment window manager iconbox but it does it to a box not to the desktop and it's pretty flakey.

There is one that iconifies to the desktop but it's to a 32x32 system icon (not a snapshot) with a label on it.

tasks.dll can do something similar but again it's only a system icon not a snapshot. And since it's a task it's inline with the other ones.

BTW, the new windowshadeX on OSX does MIP without you having to regress your dock down to that old version the other one requires.

with all of the great programmers on this site, I would love to see one of them try and tackle making this sweet program. I think it would be very useful and look pretty sweet.

try this:

download objectdock from stardock (www.objectdock.com). run it, remove all dock-icons, enable the taskbar function, place it on the left side of the screen (or right if you like), alignment bottom, with a 100% transparent dock background and no zooming. size the dockicons to your liking.

this will take a screencapture of your apps and place thumbnails of them in the bottom-left corner when you minimize. (just like MIP!)

works like a charm.
