Wallpaper Gallery

i'm a frequent visitor of aqua-soft and love the wallpaper section. i check it almost daily for new wallpaper creations by you guys. but one of my biggest pet peaves is how hard it is to find a place that's clean, easy to use, and features many wallpapers that are good and not just crap. so i thought i'd make my own place. i used an old domain i have, check it out. http://www.theartofennui.com/palmetto. you can upload some wallpapers, use it to host any wallpapers you want to display, etc. i'm gonna open source the code as soon as i finish the search section. i didn't know if this post belongs in the wallpaper section, but i thought that it was most appropriate here. i already uploaded a dozen or so of my fav wallpapers (many from here), check it out, upload some of your own. feel free to give me some feedback so i can improve it a bit. thanks :)

Do you have permission from the author's to upload and display their work? I mean does Hermik and David Lanham know about this? Did you alert them? I think you should, if you haven't already.

Just my opinion.

i haven't, i'm not much of an artist so i just uploaded a few of the wallpapers i had. i put a little notice on the bottom that says content is property of the creator. but if anyone wants anything removed they just have to say so

i like this idea, it can prove very usefull, althought theres always DeviantArt :P

#375411

i know, but deviant art is slow, bloated, ugly. this is simple, clean, fast. see what i'm saying? plus open source in a day or two

Just for future reference ... DO NOT UPLOAD MY WALLS THERE please.

Thanks.

Thanks.

if i have already, just tell me which ones and i'll take them down. if this is such a problem i guess wallpapers aren't a great implementation. :(

dude you stole a wallpaper from the unearth site.. you even removed the unearth logo..

#375535

which wallpaper? i didn't make any of these, these are all i just downloaded from random places on the net, i'm open sourcing the code today, i finished the search :)

I think a clean gallery browser is a great idea. Finding wallpapers is always such scattered process, and I agree that deviant-art is bloated and slow. The demo of your image gallery is really nice. The UI is clean, and un-obtrusive. I do think you'll run into trouble with hosting images since people seem pretty attached to their Intellectual Property. Maybe you should put a disclaimer saying you'll only host CC-approved images? That way we can get a repository going of _true_ free-as-in-speech artwork.

if you credit my for my walls, feel free to use them there. if you don't credit I sue ;)

Ah, so nice to see source! I'll be studying this, thanks for the code :).

np. i'm glad some of you see why i did this, the source and a small explanation are found here -> http://www.theartofennui.com/2006/04/03/pa...ource-and-demo/

the images i used that may or may not be some of yours are just little demos that i thought looks nice so people can see how it works. i'm in no way trying to steal your work, i did my best to credit. if you want your image removed, as i have said before, just contact me.

Nice work theartofennui.

It's obvious that you have good intention and you're trying to fix the lack of original author reference.

An infelicitous stealing accusation is as wrong as stealing itself.

Wow, and the word of the day is 'infelicitous'. I had to look that one up. Good call.
