Hey everyone,
As I look through the forum today, I myself get frustrated that I cannot find download links to programs, or programs that are very rare and hard to find.
So heres my idea, I'll make an app so that people can share aqua apps, chat about them and share links to download them. Ive already started, and Ive fixed up a nice brushed interface for it all. Basically a kazaa like program but especially for Aqua apps.
So, would you guys be interested?

btw, what do you write all your apps in?
Will it be P2P or have a centralized server? If It has a centralized server, id say, no, because you can get in trouble if something that shouldn't is distributed.
But apart from that, We could just use IRC to distribute files, doing it through a different service would divide up the people, making it harder to find stuff.
Also, maybe a mailing list or newsgroup would be good for this kind of stuff too, as its decentralized.
So I guess my answer would be "No dont bother".

Well the app will have two options, to download normal (non illegal) apps from a centralised server that someone will run and there will be an option to send files to each other and obviously i have no control what you send to each other.

Have you seen the program WASTE? Its by nullsoft and it looks like it does the same thing you want to program. Wouldn't it be easier for us to just use that? It would save you some work.

I think so cause this site is already one source. IMs is the second source.
Front page news (or news forum) is where you have everything, EVERYTHING boils down to.
What are you looking for in particular can be found at someone's computer but is best to have things go with IMs. I dont know how safe that app is going to be, and assuming it is safe (hackable), its yet another source to pass on material among users, which seem to me redundent. Maybe i'm mistaken.
Its a good idea dont get me wrong and you're welcome to try it out. Nobody has the right to stop you, so see how it works out for you and the community. One really good reason why to have that app is cause we dont host any of the major apps in the site and quite often links to their hosts are broken or dont exist. So it helps cleansing this place from redundent posts and such.
However what DZ said is true as well, kazza already shouts out "sue me" and mimicing something that contains contriversial material may not protect the site's name.
Its YOUR call. We're not you're bosses. If you want to do it go for it. IF its really helpful then hell - we'll bring all the deathknights to promote it. But if it doesnt catch up a swing, so its still yet another aqua app for the community

Alilm, what would be amazing would be a brushed dc++ client. Its opensource, so the code is freely available. Hopefully wouldn't be too tough for someone as talented as you

Well, I have started on the project because even if i dont even end up finishing it, it will improve my coding skills.

Thats pretty ambitious, if I might say so myself. This could actually be a great source for application distribution and other various file distribution. I mean, we do have Aqua-Soft right now, but its not really a great file distribution source. It doesnt have any files to download, and is not going to host any, so basically its just a big chat room a with a news page on the front. The only way to transfer and distrubute files is to find someone else or somewhere else to host the files, which can be very bothersome and annoying. The only other option is to PM and try to setup a time to meet with Messenger or some file transfer program. Can be quite annoying. We always have to go elsewhere get shared apps and such.
So, I think because of these reasons, Alilm's idea is great. It could only benefit this community. Right now it is very hard to disribute software and such, this would make it all very easy and fluid; easier for developers, like Alilm, to share and distribute their awsome apps that they put their time and hard work into.
