The new Intel Mini looks like a better choice, unless you use tons of non universal apps. An apple keyboard would be a good idea because of the locations of the modifier keys. Tiger will do just as good as panther, it is a OS update! Besides, any speed increase by using panther isn't woth sacrificing all the new components of Tiger (Dashboard, Automator, and most imoporantly, Spotlight). And well, I don't know about too many questions. You ain't violoating the 10 character rule, that's for sure. You definantly want to get extra RAM, that will always help. I couldn't say if you should purchase the 1.5 or the 1.66 GHz model... $200 difference. However, the 1.5 only has a combo drive while the 1.66 has a double layer super drive and 20 gigs more hard drive. (60 and 80), so I'd choose the 1.66 @ $799, plus ram.

So that's a 1.66 GHz, Mac Mini Intel Core Duo with a Mac pro keyboard and 1 gig RAM = about $977.

Do you already have the display or do you plan to purchase one?

Do you need a mouse?

i'm getting the display for 60$ flat and i don't have a mouse or apple keyboard.

the mini will definitely suit you if you go for the core duo. The original mac mini is okay also as long as you go for 1 gb of ram at least. About the black mini... I would not reccomend you do that yourself. >_

I'm in the process of getting a mac mini aswell. I've been wanting a mac for years and last year I decided to prepare by buying an apple keyboard, mighty mouse and 20" cinema display. Had them on my PC for ages (and wrote some software called XalKeys to make them fully compatible - especially the mighty mouse with the exposé clone 'TopDesk').

From everything that I've read, it's definately better to get the core duo if you can afford it and DEFINATELY get an upgrade on the RAM.

Basically, they've replaced the ATI Radeon card with an integrated graphics chip, which whilst better does rely on system memory rather than it's own memory. So when you take into account the 512mb that it comes with, it's actually more like 432mb (if I remember correctly). Everywhere I've read recommends the upgrade to 1gb, plus it's best to get that done before you buy your mac mini because in the latest models the ram slots are apparently really difficult to get access to in comparisson because there are more components in the way which you have to remove first.

Plus as iChuck said, getting the core duo also gives you a superdrive so that you can write to DVD (which means you can make the most out of your iLife apps, aswell as making the 80gb hard drive less of a space restriction).

As for making it black, I don't know to be honest. You're probably best checking google for sites on spray painting computer cases but I've never done it before so I don't know I'm afraid.

Sir, you are an idiot.

There is no 17" "macintosh" studio display.

Your english is terrible.

You have firms specialisted in Mac moding and coloring, google for more info.

And yes, you will be fine with a Mac mini.

#374678

unbe I think you are out of line. Not everyone speaks english as well as you do. Not everyone has all the apple info that you do.

and Im sure this is the studio display he is referring to.

That was discontinued a long time ago. The most similar one is here: http://www.apple.com/displays/

P.S. What site is that? The new iPod Mini? Introducing iLife '05 and Tiger? Aren't they a bit behind?

UPDATE: lol! The new iMac G4... You can still get a fully capable iMac G3... The all-new third generation iPod... The new PowerMac G5... PowerMac G4...

I can't get enough of this:

Mac OS X v10.3. Sneak preview of the future.

Mac OS X v10.2. The world’s most advanced OS.

iChat AV - A public beta

iLife. Award winning software for digital music, photography, moviemaking and DVD creation.

iTunes 4. Shop for music, burn CDs and sync to your iPod.

iPhoto 2. Get, save, organize, share and enjoy digital photos.

iMovie 3. Making digital movies is as fun as using your iMac.

iDVD 3. Put your Desktop Movies and digital photos in motion (requires an Apple SuperDrive).

He said he was getting the display for 60$ so I would assume it's used.

#374706

Hey, I saw that on eBay. Infact, it'd be somewhat stylish! You could put the Mini under the display ever so conveniently. Put painting it black? Man, bad idea, at least, if you do it yourself... Of course, I have no knowlage of your artistic talent.

About a keyboard and mouse, I would suggest the Apple pro keyboard and a Mighty Mouse (though it may not be perfect, it's great for Win-to-Mac switchers).

Do you know if that monitor supports your resolution?

#374743

yeah it does and im getting to use it for 2 weeks beofre i pay about the mouse and keyboard... got a cheaper idea?

please close! im gettin a g3 snow as it fits my needs because all i do i visit sites listen to music etc mostly homework
