I'm curious if these screenshots are of the final look of Panther.
Notice the inactive windows (in the system preferences screenie) and menubar still have the horizontal aqua lines.

The emperor is naked.
There is nothing really new about this 'new' look.
The window bar is not a cent better than the "Milk" theme or the "Smooth Stripes" that we have seen here for ages.
I am affraid that all this buzz Apple is making over all sorts of "new looks" is nothing more than some sort of marketing coup.
I think that in the time it took apple to move from Safari to Panther ( wow... look only at the dangeorus names here but this is nothing more than a new skin for the same OS) Aqua soft community managed to accomplish several great skins , several stand alone docks ( Y's, Moby) and some dramatic applications ( like the aquafied Outlook express).
And when I look at the Aqua Soft entry page and see all the new goodies like the power, drive and weather docklets I am more and more conviced that Aqua Soft is more important news than Apple this days.
aqua 10.2 looks way better and way more original in my opinion. :baby:
i totaly disslike the new look. :rant: well the only thing i like from these screenies is the dvd player. totaly wrong to do that to the slick look of finder! apple did bad

Vlad I am forced to agree I think that the "new look" is soething that the Developers here at Aqua-soft could have come up with these "massive gui changes" faster and with a bit more flare.
I reckon apple is out to go bankrupt.
First with losing the deep shadows of aqua when they made jaguar, and now, with this.
I hope those screenshots are a joke too.

its not only the gui.. there are allso changes that you can`t see
yes, i too hope this is a joke, if it isn't, this had better be a free update, and i had better be hearing something about how apple just laid off half their development team recently, because if this is all they can accomplish in the time frame they've had, apple scares me...
as a side note, i'm guessing they've been adding support for the ppc970, so maybe they've been busy bees trying to figure out how to add more processor support and optimizing it for the g5?

Well, Expose is a rip off of what Linux Window Managers have been doing for years.
But apart from that, everything looks vastly improved. I think the new look was just a "requirement" because they wanted to look completly new, when its obviously not a completly new look.
But besides the new theme, everything looks refined and coherent.
Everything looks darker,which I dont like, but it will probobly make the lighter, still aqua windows stand out even more.
And we are forgetting something. All these things Aqua-Soft has come up with are just carbon copies of what Apple did TWO YEARS AGO! They are so far ahead of their time, we still haven't cought up yet. How much do you want them to improve? They are still leaps and bounds ahead of Windows (out of box). And some of the new features (desktop shading) looks like it may be impossible to copy in Windows.
That, and some of the stuff is censored, so we don't know how many new things are left.
If i had a Mac i seriously wouldn't upgrade, If i buy a mac after Panther has come out i might even consider downgrading.
Theres gonna be a lot of annoyed people if they charge $100 for some dubious user interface enhancements (remember people upgrading aren't gonna benefit from any 64bit enhancements)
Your right, I was going to buy a Mac when the new iMacs just came out. And im so glad I didn't,because they charged for Jaguar so soon after, and I wouldn't have been able to afford it,and I would have gotten no updates (including security!!), ever. Thats horrible.
But You can probobly use the classic Aqua theme if you wanted to in Panther, they were just showing off the new stuff.
And it will probobly have big performance updates, we just dont know yet.
