New user. Very impressed.

Hello there everyone;

My name is Sam, and I'm 24 from Toronto, CA. I'm a new user to AveDesk and I need to say that I am very impressed with it.

It all started with the large Icons on desktop! When I saw that I was like WOW THIS IS AWESOME! so I started to ask around to see how on earth was that possible (some software can make your icons appear that huge, but they make ALL icons like that messing up some themes)

Anyway, I came across Avedesk and knew I was in for a complete new ride! I didn't look around on the software much to be honest due to lack of time (finals =(!!!) There a few things I'd like to ask:

1. Where can I find desklets, icons, and any other usefull things that can be used with AveDesk? links would be appreciated.

2. Does AveDesk support Docks? or does it run in concurent with software such as ObjectDock?

I'm pretty much a fast learner so long I know where to look, so if anyone has any usefull links to look at and read more about the software please feel free to supply them.

Finally I'd like to thank the entire team of AveDesk for a job well done.

cheers

What a nice post for someone calling themselves resentment! :P

Anyway, you might want o look here: http://www.avedesk.org/ and here: http://www.dockex.com/

1) Dockex.com or Avedesk Releases Forum on AS

2) Support docks ? i don't think you can make a dock out of Avedesk, but you can use RkLauncher ;p ( P.S: I did'nt quitely understood you there so im just guessing an answer :P )

Welcome to the dark side!

Whatcha talkin' aboot eh! :P (fellow Canuck)

Seriousness, read the rules, use the search & here are some links for ya!

Ave's Site: http://avedesk.needlemen.com/

AveScripter (Goal of becoming central host for desklets) http://avedesk.philc.ca/

SysStats http://sysstats.needlemen.com/

Dockex http://www.dockex.com/?pageId=home

It's only limited based on your RAM/video card. In other words no problem with a dock bar. etc.

1. Right here - I learned everything about Avedesk right here :)

2. I think Sysstats (currently an addon to Avedesk) does.

thanks for replying guys and the links are great.

As a new user I'm finding AveDesk a bit hard to understand, due to the big list of options and configs you can use and change. I was able to do some simple things like change the icon image and size, fonts, etc... basic stuff nothing serious. Anyhow, heres a simple question: How do you create a shortcut for your drives? i.e.: C: and D: etc...? I tried to do that but no avail. Why is it when I double click the My computer Icon, it takes a considerably longer time to access? whereas with the desktop icons it doesnt take that long (the original ones). Can you reduce that time or is it something to do with AveDesk itself? Thats actually one of the things I didnt like about the shortcuts.

Cheers.

Just create a shortcut for a folder (use the PidlShortcut desklet) and link it to C:.

Better hope you can come up with an original question, or else a mod might close this thread. It's certainly nice to show your appreciation to the AveDesk team, though :).

DeviantArt is a good place to start looking for icons.

trust me I feel stupid asking these questions but I'm getting there =) I didnt think it was going to be that simple to creat the shortcut to drives.

Its nice to hear things like this.. I get a warm feeling in my heart. And I need it its still cold up here :P

Always feel free to ask and search. There is still lots of development going on and it will only get better. :P

I think systat works with object bar. I don't use object bar personally, I've had it destroy my entire setup of the bar a few times and it just bugs me to try to reset everything back to its position again.

I'm telling you man, when I saw these big icons I was going crazy trying to figure out how and where can I do the same! Right now I'm hunting more icons, still cant find the ones I've been seeing on some screenshots at deviant.

Someone mentioned that Ave needs good RAM and a good Graphics card, heres my laptop specs:

HP Pavilion zv6000 series:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHz processor

768MB of RAM

128MB ATI Xpress 200m video (dedicated memory)

15.4" wide screen HDD capable with brightview technology @ 1280x800 res.

80 GB Hard Drive

I'm assuming this is a good laptop and can handle Avedesk, frankly, I'm going to be using Ave mostly for the large icons =P I'll be posting a screeny of my laptop once I'm done =)

cheers

:D Sorry, if I gave you/anyone that impression. That is really where most issues lie and especially with other programs. AveDesk is remarkably low on resource usage & by the looks of it you definitely have more than enough. ;)

PS. I'm running a dozen desklets (only two pidl shortcuts) and coming in at around 7.5 megs of RAM. That's with standard Intel Graphics card.

If you post a screenshot, be sure to do it in the Desktops Screenshot Thread, not here ;).

Your specs are more than fine--AveDesk doesn't need an amazing graphics card/RAM, but if it can handle Windows XP well enough, you'll be fine...

Icons:

http://homepage.mac.com/mcdo_design/icons.htm <--CHUMS and AquaCandy are big ones

http://www.rimshotdesign.com/goodies.php <--anything there

http://www.rad-e8.com/downloads/ <--pretty much anything here

There's more, of course--explore the Icon Releases Subforum, and check out iconfactory.com (among other places).

And click on my bookmarks link below for more resources (if you're new to del.icio.us it might take you a while to work out how to work it, basically click on one of the tags on the left that takes your fancy to filter the list of bookmarks).

It's funny you've mentioned del.icio.us, I was going through one of the other forums I usually go to, and del.icio.us was brought up, till then, I have never heard of it, and now it's the second time.

Thanks anyway I'll check it out =)

I posted a screeny of my desktop after a quick try with Avey, comments and suggestions apreciated.
