This is a little XML/XSLT page I´ve been working on. I was wondering if anyone wanted to use it and if anyone had any ideas on anything to add.
It´s designed to be used as an Applications folder alternative (in apps that use the explorer pane) but if an application could write the XML file it could be used for Spotlight clones I suppose.
It needs either URL-Run or Run:Protocols to work, but I hope you like the idea. Best used with Firefox though.

It does have a Readme file, that might make it easier to read. I couldn´t type much as I´m at an internet cafe and time is short, sorry.
Basically it´s kind of an HTML page but not quite, if you open the example.xml file it should appear like a webpage in IE or Firefox with a couple of example shortcuts.
A nice idea but if you don't have Firefox or IE running it takes more time to use X-File than the start menu. And I'm not surprised to see that the page doesn't lokk the way it's supposed to in IE.
Anyway, a nice feature that could make it really useful is a fast search and maybe tha ability to quickly browse through the computer for something that isn't added to the X-File files.
Interesting application--I'll have to play around with this a bit later, once I'm able to download the run protocol.

You might want to possibly give a direct link to download the Run:Protocols - googling it doesn't give any related links or I'm missing something.
Edit: Like Nostarion mentioned though, the practicality of it is some what minimal since the browser has to open. Having said that, I could definately see this being used on a kiosk style setup. I'm really getting into the idea of mini-stations around the house each with a specific function. One in the kitchen for recipes, inventory, email. One by the door for weather updates, reminders, appointments. One in the living room for entertainment. All hooked to a main server.
This is where I can see something like this getting the most use. It's quick, readily available and there's no need to search an entire list of unrelated programs to find you need.
try "run : protocol", not "run : protocols". (spaces added to get rid of smileys!!)
