Dual Booting 2hd's

hey all... ive got 2 harddrives and 1 windows xp on each one, dual booting between them, on hd1 is normal windows xp, on hd2 is one with mac customizations such as flyakite etc.etc.

my question to you all is if its possible to boot off one harddrive and have the other switched off while its not in use? eg. i boot off hd2 and have hd1 switched off while im working on hd2.

im only looking for a software solution not a hardware one. thanks in advance

It's possible, you will have to edit boot.ini file.

* Click Start > Run > type in sysdm.cpl

* Click the Advanced tab, then under Startup and Recovery, click Settings

* Under System Startup click Edit (the file should open in notepad for editing)

* Under "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="YOUR WINDOWS OS HERE" /fastdetect",

"multi(0)disk(2)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="YOUR OTHER WINDOWS OS HERE" /fastdetect"

* In notepad, go to File > Save

This should work, if not, someone correct me. Remember to replace "YOUR OTHER WINDOWS OS HERE" with the entire name of the OS.

ive already got the os's working on each harddrive, but my question is can i have the hd im not using for that sessoin to turn off while im working on the other one? just so i dont hear the noise, waste the disk away etc.?

that usually happens to my slave drive when it's inactive. check power management in control panel.
