Big problem! UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
well, getting the data usually isn't a problem. use a boot cd like bart's pe or ubcd. could be that your hd is failing, or just that some nasty bits got written to your mbr. hopefully, you have your windows cd. you could try booting from that and installing right over the top of your current install. that should save your data, although you might have to reinstall some progs.
still, unmountable_boot_volume doesn't sound very promising. good luck!
Hmm, you can try to boot to the repair-console with your windowsxp cd and run chkdsk.
Actually you should look through chkdsks help too.

I was just using the computer and then this blue screen with the error message above came up and Ive tryed safe mode. I also don't have the Win XP CD's I only have the Acer cd's which came with it and they only make the computer go back to how it was in the factory and I don't want that.

Even though you don't have a WindowsXP cd, I believe you can use Bart's PE or UBCD, the programs that shmengie linked above, to run chkdsk as neal suggests.

Do you use UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) or have you changed any cables/hardware recently? you don't seem to have a damaged system file, so... maybe try what NC suggested
I haven't changed any hardware recently. With the Ultra Direct Memory Access I have no idea what that is? With UBCD and Barts PE do I just put them on a disk and put it into the affected computer?
