2gb ddr400 or 3gb ddr333

This is prob a silly question but i was wondering which would be better to work with.

i have 3 slots and i was wondering which would give me better performance.

I figured more ram would give me better performance. as it was back in the day

currently i have 2x 512 ddr400 and that gets maxed when running photoshop.

the mobo i have is the asus a7v-600x

ya my setup is pretty old now.

so back to the question would the 2gb ddr400 give me better performance since its dual channel?

and if it doesn't give me better performance would i be able to mix a dual channel kit with a ddr333?

That depends; what are you using your computer for? If it's just gaming, 1GB is still fine, though at this point you'd probably want 2GB for the sake of not having to upgrade later on.

If you're using Photoshop intensively, then get as much as you can afford.

depends of what you use for a processor with dual channel, for amd its only around a 5% boost in performance, for intel its much greater. Id go with the ddr400, only cause its faster.

i have 3000+ athlon XP I don't use the computer too much for gaming anymore....

depending on the prices i might try and shoot for the 2gig dual channel

but in the mean time would it be possible to mix the ddr333 and the ddr400?

so lets say i get a 1gig ddr333 would i be able to use it with my 2x512mb ddr400

If you use Photoshop intensively, then 3gb is the only way to go, the performance increase with ddr400 is very very marginal, unless you're looking for serious gaming (+7%).

yea not only the processor has to use it, but so does the mobo, if one or the other or both dont work, it might underclock the ram, but if the ram isnt underclockable, the the computer will not load the ram, ittle give u beep errors up the wahzooo.

Thats wrong. DDR333 is old, so the latency on the ram will be alot higher than ddr400, so their will be a substantial increase in speed.
