No System Restore/No Taskbar

Hi everyone,

i've been using flyakite on my desktop pc for some time now and when I bought a laptop last week I was keen on installing it there, too...

At first, there were no problems, only after I did a Windows (XP Pro) Update and rebooted there was no taskbar... When I tried to do a system restore I couldn't access the system restore point utility... There was just an empty window without content.

Is there any other way to do a system restore? I reeeeeally don't feel like re-installing windows and all software again, since i just spent 2 days configuring my system the way I like it :-(

Also, is this a flyakite-problem or did i possibly do something wrong?

Thanks in advance for all hints,

Flavio

/Edit: After I had the chance to try some things, I realized that the whole system must be FUBAR... No more copying/pasting, no more registering word documents, and other things... I suppose the only thing that will help is a complete reinstall. Or is it?

have you tried to boot in safe mode ?

this can help maybe.

Oh yes, sorry, I forgot to say that the same thing happens in safe mode, no task bar and no system restore... I'm assuming that all the other things don't work there either although I didn't try everything in safe mode.

Hehe... thank you, and no, I won't scold anyone trying to help me by giving a serious response!

:-)

However, opening a new exporer window was also the first thing that came to my mind... no use though, the taskbar is actually there, but no system tray and no Window-bars to click on... only quickstart, start menu, etc.

Alright, I couldn't find a solution, so I just formatted etc.

I still don't know, what caused this problem but it has been solved...

Yeah, read the FAQ on Flyakite's website. From the menubar, select top left where it says FlyakiteOSX, scroll down to FAQs. The very first portion should tell you how to fix this.

[Edit: *sigh, too late. Wish you hadn't formatted :(*]

Ah right... I read the FAQ but I didn't recognize the first entry to be the solution to my problem... didn't even consider it :(

Thank you for the hint anyway, I hope I won't have to use it! Everything is back to normal now...
