Everything disappeared from my 5G iPod

I hope that somebody can help me with this...

I have NO idea what happened. My iPod has been connected to my computer for the past 48 hours or so. During that time I downloaded a new song and played a few tunes while I was working on the computer. I came in to add some more tunes and iTunes shows that there is NOTHING on my iPod!!!!!! Now, at the bottom of the iTunes screen it DOES show 9.38 GB being used. However, none of the music is listed. I disconnected the iPod and searched it manually. Again, NOTHING!!!!! The Apple site is of NO help at all.

I did burn a disc today for the first time.....

I don't know....

Does anybody have a clue what to do from here????

Use a File Recovery program. I recommend FileRecover. This should hopefully be able to pick up the drive.

Is "FileRocover" free or is there a full-featured trial version? I can't seem to find that particular program. I downloaded something called "undelete Professinal" and it didn't do anything. However, I must be honest that I don't really know how to use these programs.

floorlizard, perhaps the database on your iPod was somehow corrupted. You can try to rebuild the database using foobar2000 v.0.8.3 and foo_pod plugin.

Yeah, I was switching files over to a different computer, and put files on them. I deleted the files off them, and now the iPod has not nearly as much memory left. It is a iPod Click Wheel Gray Scale, or whatever it's called. It is something like this problem.

this happen to me one, and I think this is what caued it...

I just unplugged my nano from the pc, without disconnecting....I should have paid attentin to the do not disconnect lable on the nano....

there was another time that this happened under a setting which I was playing with via itunes...

what it did was errased my mp3 files while following the preference settings that I SET in the preferences.

I should have paid more attention to those settings... I lost some files, but then hay I just grab them via my library and now I take the time and pay attention....

thanks for the suggestion about foobar. I did that and it did the trick.... KIND OF!!!!

approximately 70% of the songs were rebuilt using only the "iTunes letters" to describe the tracks (i.e. FBIL is listed uner the "name" column instead of the song title and there are no artist names or album titles associated with those tracks). Now, as I am looking at the files through iTunes, I am noticing that as I highlight CERTAIN files, the artist and / or song title, etc. shows up and is put in order. However, this is not happening on ALL of the files. Thank God I bought the warranty through Circuit City that allows me a merchadise card for OTHER products if this unit fails on me... I don't need all of this agrivation!

OK!!! It is official.... The people at apple are abunch of f'ing morons. I just called their "tech support" line about my issue. First this a**clown informs me that any further issues that I have with THEIR faulty product will cost me 50 f'ing dollars a popto call them!!!!! He then tells me that my problem is with iTunes and NOT with the hardware!!! How the hell is losing all of my files a problem with the damn software? He refused to make ANY suggestions as to what my problem could have been and was very smug about the fact that I should NOT have used a third-party software program on my iPod. This is EXACTLY why I purchased the coverage through the store... They allow me to receive a store gift card for the FULL PURCHASE price of the unit if it ends up being faulty. tomorrow I am returning this piece of s*it and using my $400 dollars for something else. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM APPLE EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!

Isn't iPod the same thing as an MP3 Player, just because of apple making an ipod doesn't mean that iPod is tight and better. Only it has more GB and can play videos and pictures, but if you only use it for music, I would consider an MP3 Player.

Well, yeah, an iPod is just an MP3 player. however, most mp3 players allow you to freely transfer between the player and your CPU, etc. More to the point, I have a serious problem with Apple's customer "service". If a customer is going to hand over a large amount of money for a piece of hardware, Apple should provide customers with a way speak to somebody that can help. I don't know, maybe I am asking too much when I expect a product to work as advertised and NOT be buggy.
