I would assume/HOPE that the toolbars are very customizeable ... because those views would be totally distracting to me.
This is so ugly..I promised myself that office 2003 was the last upgrade I would do for that suite..It seems I will keep this one..
The black version looks much better, not to go so far as to say it looks good.
I think beta1's UI was promising.. I cannot believe the de-evolution this release seems to have taken.

in my opition, this is much improved from previous version and I like it.
Hate it or not, you will use it sooner or later unless you are running Linux or Mac
It is ugly as far as graphics goes.
Layout, it looks friggin awsome, with the tabbed toolbars, layout looks amazing.
Honestly now. If it doesn't look like Mac, it's considered ugly. If it does look like Mac, it's the end of the world, with comments like "OMG, look at what they're doing, it's such a direct copy of Mac"
This looks BETTER than what it is right now, so deal with it. Im actually running 2007 and im loving the look and feel of it. Sure its in Beta mode right now, but those pics look very promising to me. GO MICROSOFT and VISTA
Also.....those are one of many skins you can actually use, it does come with a variety of them, so you can change up the colour scheme and such to look like whichever one. Im assuming there will be more via download, and with the great skinners here, I'm sure they'll have a go at skinning it with their concepts.
It seems that, in order to make the whole product more attractive, and having already added every feature anyone could imagine, they change the GUI, the visible part of the package.
Although I can forgive Netscape for doing that (but I'll never install it), Microsoft Office is a different case. It is an important tool for many companies worldwide. I can't imagine how much money has been spent for training and now Microsoft comes with a version that makes most of this training obsolete. As a result, I don't think companies will be very willing to upgrade to the next version.
The menu system also helped users in another way: accessibility. Most (all) functions could be accessed by a series of keystrokes, if no mouse access was available. How accessible will this version of Office be?
Last is screen resolution. Every new version of MS Office eats up desktop space, demanding higher and higher screen resolution. Task panes and now command tabs both leave less space for our documents/slides/etc. And while task panes could be turned off, command tabs are there to stay, as the traditional menus are no longer there (at least, that's what it looks like after reading the MS Office UI page).

Oh joy another new 'innovative' interface from Microsoft. We now have white, black, and blue all competing to be the dominating color in Vista. Yea; I'm so excited :sarcastic:

OK, WAY TOO MANY buttons in the window, not to mention all of the others hidden with the tabs. Talk about intimidating. Even if it isn't as complicated as it looks, you should not be giving a person the initial reaction that it is going to be. Going overboard with blue, it feels like a friend that one-ups you every time ("Aqua? No, this is 'Aqua!'"). They should probably replace the huge Office logo with the Save button, you're going to be using that much more.
I am just waiting for a complete Excel replacement in iWork (please just don't pull the "Steamlined" crap with it), and then I can ditch Office forever.
Edit : Yes, I know this is Office for Windows, but I just wanted to state that point

Kind of a nice initiative and the way they categorize the buttons doesn't seem that bad but in the end it looks really distracting and that office-icon in the corner was really ugly. But I guess we just have to wait and see...
yes and no... you're skins a bit unflattering towards consistency which kinda makes the ss ill represent.
I hate the way UI Designing ideology is growing at Microsoft, they should either kick out their current designers and hire new and better ones or give off their UI designing to someone who knows how to make good UIs (apple designers for instance)
I don't like it. i think it's distracting, and i feel it is unnecessary to skin every aspect of windows, especially something that is supposed to be used for work (as opposed to Media Player which is for entertainment). however i like the idea of those command tabs. puts everything into nice, easy to find and managable categories. thanks for sharing

well, tbh i dont think this UI is all that bad. After getting used to the beta version of this, these images dont seem like the worst thing ever. They are of course way to bright and chunky, but still, not all that that
